Quarantine Blues
They met at the usual location–behind the gymnasium by the outdoor gym. Ever since they first met at the student orientation day, they became 420 buddies. He caught her rolling a spiff behind the student hall when she sneaked from the dreaded orientation group. When she got caught, for a second, she thought her academic career was over. But instead of reporting her to the counselors, Tobias bargained for a few puffs using his advanced debate skills and indisputable arguments. And after she moved into the dorm Tobias and she quickly developed an ever so slight gesture to secretly communicate to each other that it was puff-puff-pass time.

Magic We Can Experience
Have you ever been to a theme park and half-ran to get to the next attraction? You see events happening, smell the unique food, hear the excitement all around, all while enjoying cotton candy. You ride the rides, buy some overpriced trinket at the gift store, get on another ride, buy Dippin’ Dots, wait in line and watch the craziness all around. Cell phones don’t exist except for taking pictures or recording videos. Sure, it was a lot of work to get there but before you know it, it’s 9:00pm and you haven’t peed all day!

The World Behind The Flower Wall.
My parents separated when I was seven, my mom left my dad, my sister and I, it wasn't a surprise as they had been sleeping in different bedrooms for a while by the time she decided to move out. She bought a house not far from my dad's, a fifteen minute walk away, the house was big, it had a long driveway and a huge garden that surrounded it in a U shape. At the back of the house was the southern fence, which was made of a flower and plant wall, not like the northern fence which was concrete and menacing. That flower wall was shared with the neighbors to the south and we had cut a hole in it that went from our backyard to theirs; we were really good friends with them and it was way easier to use the hole in the fence than walk all the way around on the street.

A Cat's Choice
Talsia couldn't believe that she was on her way to the temple of Felina to watch Imperial Prince Rolan get engaged to some random girl. What in the world was the Emperor thinking to let the priesthood do that to him? Even worse, she didn't want to be in the carriage right now with her parents and sister going to see this farce. She had better things to do with her time, like study for her exams that were coming up. She would not get past first rank journeyman mage by spending hours at dumb events like this. But she lost her argument with her parents and Saran because the Emperor mentioned her by name on the invitation.

Quarantine Blues
The meeting hall was almost empty when she walked in. There were a few chairs put out - each almost 1,5 meters apart all facing the small stage. She could see Jacqueline with the rest of the med students sitting in the first row. There were some foreign exchange students sitting as far apart from each other as they could. Some even had masks on. It seems that the rest of the students already left last night after the announcement, and the rest followed this morning. She didn’t blame them. Everyone, even she, feared the virus.

The Jinn and The Girl
The notebook held a secret. There was a Jinn inside. The notebook’s black leather was ancient, cracked by the passage of time. It’s once bright and gilded edges had rubbed away long ago. The notebook smelt of ash and sea spray. Trickles of blood decorated the pages in the middle. In the Fertile Crescent, the cradle of civilization, the notebook’s paper had been constructed of papyrus.

Stolen Stars
We are all prisoners of the galaxy, of The Galaxy Lords, and the mortal world. The holy night of the stars will be different this year; the stars will shine, blinding us with the light that makes our eyes bleed from the creases of our cornea to the tips of our chins. I can just feel it through my mortal veins. Mama said it had been centuries since someone from the town of Luriada has been out in the open sky. The Holy Asartar night is a night where every star in the galaxy lights up with flames, my favorite being the star of temprata. As a child, my parents kept me and my little brother Hyphen well away from this night; they feared there could be outliers, those who go against the “normal” capabilities of humanity and pick up on the greediness of the starian sixtation. The starian sixtation are told to have picked up on the souls they have stolen during this night. Nobody has ever returned from the open sky, Mama said they could be dead, Papa said they could be sacrificed, and I say they could be killers.
