Libra The Scales

Balance is the sine qua non of life

THE MONGOLIAN ZODIAC - WHAT DID GHENGHIS KNOW ?

I am a Libra on the cusp of Scorpio. Star date: Oct 22nd. I like balance, harmony, no drama, and beauty. I am sensitive and intuitive. I dislike one on one conflict. On the cusp of Scorpio means I am supposed to like sex, but then again who doesn't. I thought most of the people I admired were Libra's too. I was mistaken. I admire people throughout the zodiacal spectrum. The exact dates and times of the various signs according to the best astrologers are approximations. Approximations with what amount of error you ask? Is it a little bitty error? Like the one that caused the spaceship The Challenger to crash. Or was it a huge error like the one that caused the sinking and multiple deaths on the infamous Titanic. To the scientific minded this kind of “approximation” puts the kibosh on astrology as a science. That being said zodiacal star lore has been present in every culture right up to the present day including the watered down nondescript astrological readings in many newspapers and magazines. A friend of mine's father worked for a newspaper writing the astrological section. He essentially made up the forecasts and switched them around periodically. I believe astrology started out with a foundation based in reality. As the zodiac is a part of the reality of nature. I am a strong proponent that all of nature provides instructing signs for discerning observers. The zodiac this instruction maybe more than others. It stands to reason that time and place have an effect on the human being when we look at it logically. A person born in Hoboken, New Jersey will have a profoundly different outlook, personality, and psyche than a person born in let's say Balkhash, Karaganda Region in Kazakhstan.

Projecting that thinking to the earth, sun, and moon which rotate under the zodiac above us at different times and places during the year, one can see how it seems that the same place and time logic applies to the earth with respect to its position vis-a-vis the heavens above. However at one time the earth “seemed” flat and the sun “seemed” to revolve around the earth. The countless references to the heavens in all cultures indicates the powerful influence the zodiac has had. But is astrology a defining influence? Is it possible that the true lore of astrology which birthed the science of astronomy has been lost over the eons? See The Case for Astrology (Arkana) by John Anthony West. West clearly shows the two proponents of astrology. One being that that there is a link between happenings in the heavens and happenings on the earth. The second being that a human beings personality is linked to the position of the planets in our solar system on a human beings birthdate.

On the first position a question I have is why would the influences stop at our solar system? What about other major objects in the galaxy like Sirius A which is about twice as massive as our sun? Since all in the objects in the universe are connected by gravity no matter how weak the force, shouldn't the location of Sirius at our births factor into our personality type? There is presumably a counterpart to physical gravity connecting us astrologically therefore Sirius A should play a part. Let's not even mention Sirius B the invisible Partner to Sirius A. The Dogon people recognized the Sirius pair of stars millennia ago as the Dogon are reported to have originated in ancient Egypt which also has a system of astronomy. However there is no record of astrology in Egypt the world's oldest civilization. On the second point. Let's do a thought experiment. Billy Strayhorn world famous musical composer and partner with the equally if not more famous Duke Ellington wrote some of the most memorable compositions in jazz and musical history such as “Take The A Train and Chelsea Bridge just to name a couple. He was a Sagittarius born Nov. 29th. According to expert astrologers keywords associated with Sagittarius are luck, orthodox religion, philosophy, and law. He was a gay musical genius more suited to the key words of the Libra which are balance, harmony, artistic ability, and beauty. My sense is that there are millions of mismatch cases like this in humanity.

Between 2018 and 2020 there were 85 new astrology books added to the astrological canon. That there is a continued interest in astrology is not in dispute. This only shows that humans have a continuing need to understand there lives of chaos and change in a larger context connected with the universe of which they are a part. Not that astrology is accurate. And even when accurate in some cases, as it is in mine in some instances, it is still wrong for the reason noted above. Data scientist, Alexander Boxer gives astrology a hat tip in his book. A Scheme of Heaven : The History of Astrology and The Search For Our Destiny in Data by giving it credit for being “ Civilizations first system of algorithms”. An algorithm is a step by step procedure for solving a problem. Based on the publishing velocity of astrological tomes and the amount of astrological access at our finger tips, via cell phones and the internet, it appears the problem of resolving our destiny by a code embedded in the heavens is still needed.
