Chapters 1 to 3 can be read at: Deep Sky Stories Chapter 4 (Part 1) - Probably Wasn't A Good Idea Alex Faraway's grade seven teacher, Mister Chater, worried. He worried about many things that could happen or might happen, almost every day. It was, perhaps, a symptom of being an over-ambitious person who, despite all his efforts to get ahead through the years, had only managed to land work as an elementary school teacher, and had become stuck in the same place far too long.

Where the Body Ends and the Self Begins
In a few months we will be able to see the first human head transplant. After years of preparation and planning, surgeons hope that the procedure, successful or not, will lead to new treatments for the severely disabled. The procedure itself will be a grueling thirty six hours, and if the early tests on mice are any indication, the volunteer patient might only have a few hours to enjoy his new body. Other researchers point to other dangers that might arise, including a real possibility that the severely damaged spinal cord nerves might trigger unimaginable, permanent pain. Regardless, the surgeons are moving forward in what they hope will be a great leap for science.

Review of Somewhere Between 1.8
Somewhere Between ratcheted up the life-and-death tension in 1.8 this week, pitting Laura's daughter Serena vs. Nico's brother Danny as the one-or-the-other victim to be saved by Laura and Nico, who have the advantage of knowing what will happen any day now, at the end of this, but little else going for them in terms of power over events.

What Does the World Have Left In the Tank?
Mother Nature cries every time we slap her in the face...and now she is returning the hurt. Betting On the Future If I was a betting man, I would really think that climate change was fake! Well, there is only one person that believes this; no names, no drills. If one really thinks about the tragedies that have happened in the last ten years as a minimum, it is a safe bet that we as humans are the root of this turmoil and will become the victims our own doings.

About a Strange Girl
The first time I saw her, I thought I was imagining things. I was taking a walk through a snow covered field, in the dead of winter, on the way to my uncle's cabin. He lived about a mile walk from my home, and it became a routine to make this trip each day during the winter. After a long shift at my parent's bakery, I trudged through the thick snow to reward myself for the day's hard work, by sitting beside my uncle as we warmed our frozen toes by his fireplace. On this particular day, I remember the temperature was below freezing, and the snow was falling heavily. As I reached the final stretch of land before his house, I noticed a young girl, I would guess around my age, walking barefoot toward me. What I remember most distinctly about her, was her striking white hair that matched the color of the falling snow. Of course I noticed her bare feet as well, which should have been frozen to the point of death, given the weather. My first thought besides wondering if I had gone mad, was that the girl was either on some sort of drug, or she was something not of humanity. My second thought, strangely, was that I dearly cared about the girl's well-being, and wanted to make sure she was okay. As I started toward her, she stopped, watching me come forth. I was about ten steps from her, when she smiled in the most curious way, only for a second, before she turned from me and ran in the opposite direction. As much as I was interested in this strange girl, I did not follow her. My feet were so frozen that they'd become numb, and my mind could only think of the warm fire I would enjoy upon reaching my destination. When I finally made it to my uncle's house, he was waiting for me on the porch, presenting to me a hot cup of cocoa and a large woolen shawl to wrap myself in.

Rewatching... Doctor Who: Tomb Of The Cybermen - Episode 1
"Look at him. 'Archaeologist' written all over him." Saturday 2 September 1967 Can it really be less than a year since Patrick Troughton took over as Doctor Who? He seems so established, and Hartnell so long ago now. And this is the programme's fifth season? Incredible.
