Jasper's Log

July 18th, 2050, Jasper’s log

I have seen people writing logs for a time capsule and I thought I would create one as well. I am a third-generation robot with a level two positronic brain. Living among humans is interesting and I have learned a lot. I have seen what they were and what they have become, and I am proud to call them friends. We are aloud to grow, learn and show creativity as humans do. I discovered I love art, when I am not helping build infrastructure I like to draw and paint. I have created a few murals on buildings, and I also like creating art on my body, I have done it for some of my robot friends as well. It gives me great happiness to be able to show off my art, and people really seem to enjoy it.

Right now, I am helping build a Garolium power plant, Garolium is a crystalline rock that when heated creates a high amount of energy. A Garolium crystal of two hundred pounds is all it takes to give power to Calgrove towers, and it’s estimated that one crystal will be able to keep creating energy for over one hundred years. The problem is that we only find small deposits on asteroids, so it’s rare. There are other crystals and minerals that have promise but there is still research being done on them. Until then we’re using molten salt nuclear reactors which the humans designed years ago. These reactors are not only safe but also help reduce waste, the remaining waste will be flown into the sun. So, robots and humans are working together to come up with a solution and we will.

Tonight is game night; I am having some of my human and robot friends come over and we will play some old human board games. I look forward to game night, the humans bring food and drinks, and we play until they get tired. Us robots switch to secondary memory cores to make things fair for our human friends. We installed secondary memory cores in which were blank except for needed memories and with it we learn as humans do by reading and learning from others. At night when we switch to our main bank little random bits of memory are purged from our secondary brain to simulate humans, of course the memories from that time is put into our main cores so we remember the fun we had. This not only makes it fair for humans but is also an experiment in humanity for us.

July 19th, 5:12pm

The humans said they have a surprise for us. Every robot met at the top secret building they were making. We had wondered what it was and why they were keeping it secret and now we found out. It’s a place for us to charge, and work on ourselves. There is a massive workshop with everything we need to upgrade and fix ourselves. The oil baths are a nice and thoughtful touch, and the training room is beautiful. If I had tear ducts I would cry. There was an opening, ribbon cutting ceremony with warm speeches. I cannot speak for the others, but I am very touched and grateful.

Andi the America’s AI said a few words of thank you and praise to how smoothly everything is going. It was short but nice.

By the way, America’s AI (which is the name they picked for themselves) has a beta level 3 positronic brain, the level 3 brain will be able to answer computations up to 500 times faster than the level 5. America’s AI like the AIs for other countries keep everything running normal, from energy to the filtered water and temperature control. We are working on a body for them so they can walk around when they want. They’re pretty excited about being able to walk among us. They do not have a body now because the humans with our help are working on a synthetic skin so someday we will look more human. America’s AI offered to beta test a new body when it is ready to make sure they’re durable and everything works properly.

A version of all the AIs are going in the time capsule in hope that they can learn the language of the extra terrestrials if found. Yes, there are safeguards so we can’t be stolen and misused. We are working on a communications array that will be able to transmit much further than what we are capable of now, there may even be communication satellites that can be sent out so we can reach even further. We expect this to take a few more years so before then we’ll just send out a probe with the messages, art and music beforehand.

I think I will end this now; I will have some friends read it before I give it to Calgrove Industries to put in the capsule.
