Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say.
I was among the first people to see her body. Barely warm, the color drained from her cheeks and lips made her the ghost of who my sister was. Her black hair stuck to her forehead; her brown eyes glossed over as I foolishly waited for her to cry to me. But she wouldn’t. She couldn’t.
I glance toward the hand that rested on my shoulder, fighting a shiver that wracked through my body. My thoughts were racing, I couldn't fathom what to do next.
“I’ll bring her to the After, Varo. Soren’s are always safe with me.” She whispered, gripping my shoulder.
I watched wordlessly as Evie moved around the room. She closed the door to the bedroom, locking it before turning to face me. She crouched down next to my sister, a light blinking in her pocket. Red then yellow, then green.
Evie extends her hand out to me, urging me to hold it. She squeezes it, giving me a small smile. “The time is now, announce your wishes so that she can be free.” She murmurs.
My chest tightens at her words, the standard script of Arcturian never mattered to me until now. Arcturian’s heavily believed the proper way to send someone to the After was to admit to desires for the deceased, and for the reformation of their soul. I never asked Evie if it had an impact, but something told me it did.
“I want her to be free from Starseed intervention, and I hope whoever she becomes is everything she didn’t get to do in this lifeline. Most of all, I hope Ra and Gaia never see her past Creation.”
Evie nodded, pressing her hand to the inside of my sister’s wrist. I watched as her veins brightened to a neon blue. “I’ll be back in a few minutes, Varo. Hang tight.” Evie whispered, and then the two of them dissolved into the air thinner than a mist, disappearing.
I only sat there for a minute, before getting to my feet. I let out a sigh, rubbing my hands against my face before letting out a scream. A burning sensation flooded my left arm, and I look down to see the S that was branded into the ditch of elbow glowing. Evie just left the After.
A sharp knock wraps against my door, and before I can even move, it is pushed open. General Sodpu fills the doorway, and I stand a little straighter. He is the most influential person in the Cosmos, and visually one of the more daunting ones. As Ra’s cousin, he commands attention and discipline. He stands a few inches taller than me, somewhere over six foot. His black hair cropped low to his head; his skin darkened by the Sun: His home. Sodpu rarely wore his military blues outside of work, but he always kept his armband on. The decoration of stars and pins that declared him the best.
“Colonel Soren,” He states, nodding his head. “I am sorry to visit without prior appointment, but this couldn’t wait much longer than it already has.”
“Of course, Sir. What is it?” I reply, shoving away my sadness for a time that I won’t be interrupted.
Sodpu looks uneasy for a moment, before pulling a paper from his back pocket. The paper, an off white has an unmistakable green mark on it. It’s from his cousin. “I read it on the way here, he delivered it to me specifically, but I have been bringing it to my commands. This is not a good thing.” He alluded
My face remained stoic, but internally I was already grumbling. As if I needed any more bad news today. I reach out for the paper, my arm burning again. Why did it keep doing that today? I unfolded the letter, preparing myself for what this could be.
The date reads a three days ago, January 8th, 2098.
Sodpu,
General Irek has insisted upon the overturn of the Cosmos by his crimes against the Indigo Seeds. Through his actions of the past six months, without fail for intervention, he has enabled the abilities of the Indigo’s to free the evil spirits trapped on Earth to roam the Cosmos as they saw fit. The Universe is on the brink of explosion, the increase in radiation from the spirits tied with the electromagnetic shift of the atmosphere there isn’t much time left. I haven’t found a solution; it has become unmanageable. There are upwards of 3,000 from prior report. I have spoken with Gaia, and we discussed our options.
There is a planet, Cerebos. It is on the outskirts of the Milky Way, farther than the humans have been able to explore. It is Earth like, and it’s the only option as we see. It does not orbit the Sun, so with the inevitable explosion of the Sun it will not be a problem for us. I have maintained this universe since the beginning, but more problems have occurred since Irek has begun this venture. This is a mass genocide waiting to happen if we do not move quickly.
Find every Seed, they need to get there. The Lemurians will need to be the first to find this, and through every seed any human that can be saved, will be. There is no limit to the order that Seeds go to the new planet, the only requirement is that the Maldeks leave last.
Please don’t hesitate, death is imminent for those who don’t make it. If you can’t find the Starseeds, consult with the Census, it has everyone’s location presently.
Light Speed,
Ra
My eyes read over the last two sentences, fear pumping through my body. I let out a shaky breath, handing the letter back to the General. We are going to die; I repeat to myself.
“You must move quick, Varo.” He insists, pulling me from my thoughts. “Cerebos is supposed to be the new start, the new beginning for humanity. Gaia has already identified the new leaders, and it is pertinent that the five of you make it there first. “
“Wait, “I cut him off, holding my hand up. “What do you mean by the five of you?” I ask.
He grimaces, dropping eye contact with me. “Well, Gaia has decided that you are among the successors for the new planet.” He replies, looking back at me.
“You must be joking. I’m in charge of soldiers, not humans.” This just can’t be real. “Who else did she pick? Anyone of better reasoning besides one of the militant higher ups?”
Sodpu nods. “Why, yes, she did. She was methodical in her decision making I must admit. Teran P from the North Star. Dylan, he’s that boy from Lyra. The last one, unfortunately. Hairo, he’s Andromedan. Certainly, finally, your friend Miss Evolet.”
A tick sets into my jaw as I shake my head. Before I can stop myself, I kick the bed beside me. “How the fuck am I supposed to lead a planet?” I ask. “This is insane, you know that right? Has Gaia been spending too much time too close to the Sun again?” I bite out.
A look crosses Sodpu’s face, and in a flash his hand wraps around my neck. “Now, you listen here Colonel. If you fail to do this, and for the well being of literally 7 billion people, it’s on you. Every decorative accomplishment is out the window, and you will be nothing, none of us will. Gaia and Ra went through thousands of Starseeds and theorized the best options for the success of life. You were among the chosen. Right now, you’re acting like a spoiled fucking brat. Now, shut up and get to work. You will be meeting with the others- “
“VARO!”
A voice cuts off Sodpu and we both turn towards the girl that appeared in the room. It was Evie. Her brown hair was wild, and she had cuts all over her face and arms. Her eyes searched the room, looking for something.
“What is it?” I ask.
“They took your sister before she could cross over.” She rushes out. “I don’t know where they took her, I’ve been fighting for the last forty-five minutes with the guards they sent. She didn’t cross, and things are going to get worse very shortly.”
Sodpu looks at her with wide eyes. “They took his sister, how?” He asks.
“I just found her body not long before you came, General. Evie was to see her cross into the After so her soul can be at rest.” I state. “So, who took her?”
She shrugs, shaking her head. “I don’t know, he was cloaked. They took her to make her the leader. Your sister is going to be programmed to be their new leader. Especially with that Starseed blood, I was blindsided.”
I fight the urge to laugh at my newfound luck. My sister has become the enemy faster than I was able to even grieve.
