"Wake up, wake up, it's time for school," A faint voice is heard. Cali'Anna wasn't waking. She had had a long day, and an even longer night. She had spent the day preparing for the schools talent show. She was exhausted. Her talent was singing. However, when she sang, things around her would happen, but others didn't seem to notice it was because of her singing. Cali'Anna has a sweet voice when she spoke, but her singing voice was incredible.
"Cali'Anna, come on! You can't be late, not today!" Says her brother. She had six brothers but Andre was her closest brother. They were only two years apart. Andre was his sisters biggest fan. He was the only one who believed his sister was powerful in many ways.
Cali'Anna was dreaming, dreaming of this competition today. She had dreamt of an owl, but not any owl, a beautiful barn owl. In this dream, the owl was speaking to her. The owl told her that so many people believed he represented death, but that he wanted to bring life. The owl was tired of the old superstition. Just like Cali'Anna, the owl felt magical. He asked if he could fly in during her performance and say hello. "Little owl, you may join me on the stage today. I'd be delighted! I've never had an owl on stage with me. I bet everyone would be shocked!"
"Wake up, please don't make me go get water!" Andre was yelling at this point.
"I'm up, why are you yelling at me!" Cali'Anna said, waking up quickly.
"Sister, why do you sleep so hard? It's like your in another world or something. Are you ready for today?"
"Yes Andre, I am ready! I'm so excited. Although, I had a dream. It was very unusual. If mom was here, she'd know what my dream meant. She studied magic, she knows everything!" Cali'Anna explained.
The two drove to the high school. On the way Cali'Anna was making up songs. She seemed to do that daily. "I'm not going to be late todayyyyy, I'm going to make the crowed smile hurrraaayyy. I'm going to win this contest, I'm going to be a star. I feel this is a good day to go faaarrr!" She sang along the way.
An owl swooped in front of Andres car. "Did you see that? " he yelled. However Cali'Anna shook her head no because her eyes were closed while she was singing. "Cali'Anna, it was an owl. Owls are bad luck! I am calling mom! She will make a spell jar or do some kind of crazy magic to protect us today!"
"An owl? Andre, I dreamt of an owl. This owl was good though. Please don't call mom. I don't feel like bringing her magic in this. It's just a bird, maybe just a coincidence. Just please don't bother mom!" Cali'Anna didn't like hearing about her mom and her magic. Her mother had her practicing magic at the age of 3. She got made fun of for having a mother who believed she was a witch. Little did Cali'Anna know, she was more magical than her mother.
Both teens arrived to the high school. They arrived 5 minutes before Cali'Anna was due to be on stage. The school talent show lasted all day. It was basically a free day of school to help the kids unwind. You never really knew who would be there though. Talent agents were always making an appearance. Cali'Anna was never nervous. Her mom always made her a special tea the night before. It had chamomile, honey, and vanilla in it. Not only did it help her sleep, but it was also good for her vocals.
It was Cali'Anna's turn! She walked out onto the stage. Andre stood behind the curtain. He was always by her side. Her song she was covering was "Colors of the wind," from the movie Pocahontas. The moment she walks out, the crowed starts screaming amd ducking their heads. She sees an owl. Not only an owl, but THE OWL. The same owl from her dream. "Calm down, he is here for me. Don't scare him, he's an innocent animal!" She instructs Andre to start the sound track. The moment she starts singing, everyone forgot about the owl. They watched her in amazement. The owl, went to the stage. He hooted a few times. Then he swayed back and forth like he was just enjoying the song. After she finished singing, the crowd was amazed. Her voice calmed everyone. Her magical, pure voice.
"Thank you, " she slightly laughed. She walked over slowly to the owl, calmly picked him up, and walked him outside. "I know you can't speak, but I know who you are. I seen you in my dreams. Thank you, thank you for coming to see me. " The owl winked, and flew away. Cali'Anna became the talk of the town. The news even did a story on her.
Cali'Anna decided to start joining her mom during meditation. She finally believed she was special, just as her mother had told her for many years. This is only the start. The start of a young lady ready to achieve her magic and embrace it!
