As Movie Viewing Changes, What Should We Hope for?

A Fan's Opinions about Awards, Theaters, and the future of movies

Last night I was happy that I obtained access to the viewing of the recent Oscar's awards ceremony. I have always enjoyed watching the fashions on the red carpet and seeing if the host is going to be funny or basic. Conan O'Brien hosted the 2025 Oscar's, and his sense of humor had me falling off my chair in roaring laughter so I was pleased. I didn't see in any of the glimpses of the audience the same laughter I was experiencing, (which must have been somewhat disappointing for Conan) but what can you do? Humor is subjective.

This morning after coffee and a breakfast snack, I took a peek at my stock portfolio and noticed a decline in AMC Theaters which got me thinking about the possibilities regarding movie theaters future. We all know that there are plenty of ways to view television and movies (cellphones, tablets, computers, 80 inch smart televisions, etcetera) so besides a first date or an anniversay occasion why would anyone still go to the movie theater? When I have stepped out on rare occasion to enjoy a movie at the movie theater, I have noticed the details that form my opinionated likes and dislikes. Sadly, I think there are more dislikes than likes at the movie theater (at least for me, but probably others who aren't showing up there also) and that makes me suspect that they won't last much longer, just like the city newspapers are feeling the crunch as their circulation has been declining. These are not just "emotions" or "preferences" --- they are the analysis of what is occuring to our civilization's landscape and ideology as technology continues to alter our perceptions. I'm definitely not the only one who thinks Ai is a bad thing, and I have read angry comments from other technology fans and users which expressed disgust at the Ai videos contaminating the social media streams and vulnerable minds. These manipulative tactics are more psychologically damaging than doing LSD or watching sex and violence on television or the movie screen. Yet while I get in trouble for profanity in an inappropriate "place" --- Ai is allowed to affect the psychology of impressionable minds with no consequence or reprimand? That is beyond unfair! That is reprehensible and very very dangerous.

As for the future of AMC stock or movie theater "going" --- my recommendations for owners of theaters or producers of films is a simply response to declines: Change. Bring back Drive-in Theaters if you want more attendance. The Drive-in Theaters pleased everyone. Fancy reclining chairs don't please the first daters or the smokers, but staying in their own cars will inspire their ticket purchases. Since many of us have come to enjoy watching movies on our big screen television or on our almost free cellphones, why would we want to spend $50 to sit among cranky viewers where we can't even pause the film for a bathroom break?

The Mother of Invention was said to be Necessity. The Mother of Innovation then, is probably the combination of Desire and Comfort. To keep your brand, product, and stock releveant and stable, Innovation ought to be prioritized over Invention. I hope that helps readers who feel the way I do, and movie theater owners understand their declining numbers on the stock market.
