The Effect That AI Is Having On Artistic Creators
Introduction
How would you know if this had been written by Artificial Intelligence or a human? Many will know the structure of my articles but I am sure a machine could more than mimic that.
And So To The Creeping Menace of Artificial Intelligence
The thing is I use Artificial Intelligence to generate my Vocal Story artwork, I have made no secret of that despite some people telling me that I am taking the bread out of the mouths of the artists' children.
The thing is almost every image I generate has a definite fault, especially where anatomy is concerned. They often look great at a distance but do not bear up under close scrutiny. Also, I put in a text prompt and hope something adequate comes out. Some of the images are great but many have to be binned.
If I want a definite image I would have to use a real artist as my creation are filled with swathes of randomness.
Writing Generated By Artificial Intelligence
Now here comes a problem. How can anyone or anything tell whether a passage of text was written by a person rather than a machine? Did they throw some prompts into a generator and then pass off the created text as their own story?
At the end of this is a poem I was given to share on Vocal by a friend. After he had given it to me he told me it had been generated by Artificial Intelligence.
I thought it covered the required bases and had I not been told I would have thought it had been written by my friend.
At the moment we are relying on people to be truthful, but I believe many will see this as a way of making a quick buck and not say that they are using a tool to generate their stories.
I do believe poetry might be swamped by artificially generated content.
I see lots of tools advertised to generate content for blogs and other websites, but while this may be OK for system documentation and technical articles but should not be allowed for creative content. unless it is extremely well-policed.
The question then is how do you police AI text? I have seen some articles generated and they sometimes have major logic flaws, but my writing can have major logic flaws. I didnât even know the real criteria for a haiku until my friend Lee put me right on that, so a lot of work will have to go into having Artificial intelligence to check whether articles have been written using Artificial Intelligence.
There may be patterns in text created by generators that can be spotted. We have the ability to check for plagiarism so could a similar technology be used to check that an article is generated using Artificial Intelligence?
I donât know and I am not that technically aware of what this sort of checking software could be capable of.
Conclusion
I have no intention of using an AI Text generator for creating content. I would feel I am a cheat and could certainly not present it to my audience.
Also, writing stimulates my mind and I think is one of the reasons that I am still able to continually come up with new ideas, which act as a stimulant and allow words to flow from my fingers via my keyboard onto the screen for people to read.
We are now waiting to see what happens next but hopefully, this will end up with a satisfactory outcome for all concerned.

About Binding Prometheus
I want to start actively advocating on behalf of my own work, and the most valuable part of my canon is, without a doubt, Binding Prometheus, the play I have been working on since 2019 and only finished in 2023 as part of my MA. The play itself is an amalgamation of a million different inspirations. On one end, it evokes the Ancient Greek myth-play, deriving its own title from the earliest extant work of Western drama we have, Aeschylusâs Prometheus Bound. On the other end, it borrows significantly from the sci-fi bulwarks from over the years, namely Mary Shelleyâs Frankenstein and Karel Capekâs Rossumâs Universal Robots. The play could be an episode of Black Mirror, I fear. I donât know. Iâve only ever seen one episode of Black Mirror.

There are a couple I used before for different things, but I donât remember their names off the top of my head and also there were too many. But then I've found AImReply https://aimreply.com/ , which I use for everything - crafting email replies, checking grammar, quickly compiling answers to complex questions, etc. That oneâs definitely worth checking out.
Can you give me any specific examples I can reference?
That depends on what you mean by âcoolest.â I think that being able to do things like create poems or art from scratch is a blast, but mostly for the novelty. Itâs the automation of simple tasks thatâs been my favorite.

(If I love to write and the process of writing, why would I have AI do some of the work for me?) However, I could see people using AI to boost their productivity for monetary means. I suppose it depends on what one's purpose for writing is.

I'm reading "Metropolis" by Thea von HArbou right now. The novel (I've seen the film more times than I can remember) was written around a century ago, but it predicted AI in the form of the "Evil Maria" robot, "Futura Artifice Parody". Joh Frederson, the ruler of Metropolis, wants to replace his slave labor force with machines. The novel is also replete with religious imagery comparing those machines to pagan deities, but the "Goood Maria" is a saint-like Christian apostle who preaches in a secret place surrounded by crosses. Von HArbou seemed to be suggesting that replacing Man with Intelligent Machine (AI) was an affront to God. Or, playing God, so much as the creation of Metropolis ("The New Tower of Babel") itself was. A theme that goes back to Mary Shelley and Frankenstein.
Thank you or writing this, Mike. I have been wondering how the whole AI story writing will affect online writing like what we do. I have a hard time imagining how a computer could match the nuances and individuality of human writers. It will be interesting o see how it works out. Well written article!
Good article. I will never use artificial intelligence for writing but I do use it for creating images. Although I usually take those images and Photoshop them and add them to other images which I have created to come up with pretty much my own original creation. As far as taking bread out of the mouths of artists children think of it this way you are putting bread in the mouths of the people who create the tools for us to be able to use artificial intelligence. So somebody's being fed it's not like you're taking away from one but not giving to another. So it evens itself out.
I'm totally with you on this one. Using AI to create written work would be very unfair to writers and authors. Plus it defeats the whole purpose of wanting to write something. I'm totally against this! Very well written article!
