Aliens and Presidents - Uncovering the connections

From Truman to Obama—What U.S. Commanders-in-Chief Might Really Know About Extraterrestrials

By Kristen OrkoshneliPublished 6 months ago 3 min read

Since the 1940s, speculation about UFOs and extraterrestrial life has followed a peculiar pattern—one that often runs parallel to the actions and words of U.S. Presidents. While official denials remain consistent, a trail of declassified documents, whistleblower testimony, and mysterious incidents suggests something deeper: that presidents may know more about aliens than they let on.

The Roswell Incident and Truman’s Silence

In July 1947, an object crashed in Roswell, New Mexico. The U.S. Army initially claimed to have recovered a “flying disc,” only to quickly retract the statement and identify the debris as a weather balloon. This flip-flop ignited decades of speculation.

At the time, President Harry S. Truman was in office. While he never publicly addressed Roswell in detail, a 1950 interview with Canadian broadcaster Wilbert Smith revealed that American officials considered flying saucers to be "the most highly classified subject in the U.S. government." Smith claimed to have spoken with Dr. Robert Sarbacher, a Pentagon consultant, who said the subject was even more secret than the hydrogen bomb. Truman's administration quietly formed the National Security Council in 1947—just months after Roswell.

Eisenhower’s Alleged Alien Encounter

Perhaps the most enduring rumor of presidential contact comes from President Dwight D. Eisenhower. In February 1954, while vacationing in Palm Springs, Eisenhower reportedly disappeared for several hours. The official explanation was that he needed emergency dental work. But some claim he actually met with extraterrestrial beings at Edwards Air Force Base.

These allegations were fueled by a number of sources over the years, including former military officials and even one of Eisenhower’s own relatives. While no solid evidence confirms such a meeting, the secrecy surrounding the event—and the lack of press access—keeps the story alive.

JFK and the UFO Memos

President John F. Kennedy was reportedly curious about the UFO phenomenon. In 2011, two documents surfaced (though their authenticity remains debated) showing that JFK requested access to CIA files about UFOs just ten days before his assassination in 1963. One memo, dated November 12, appears to direct the CIA to share information with NASA “to help with their defense responsibilities.”

Researchers and conspiracy theorists alike point to this as possible evidence that Kennedy wanted to disclose UFO information publicly—an intention that, in some theories, contributed to his assassination. While this link is speculative, it feeds a persistent narrative of UFO secrecy at the highest levels.

Carter’s UFO Report and Reagan’s Encounter

President Jimmy Carter openly admitted to witnessing an unidentified flying object in 1969. He filed a formal report with the International UFO Bureau in 1973 and promised during his campaign that he would make UFO information public. However, once in office, Carter reversed course, citing national security concerns.

Ronald Reagan, too, claimed to have seen a UFO while flying in a private plane in the 1970s. Later, as president, Reagan made several cryptic references to alien threats in speeches, including a 1987 United Nations address where he mused, “How quickly our differences worldwide would vanish if we were facing an alien threat from outside this world.”

Obama, Trump, and the Pentagon's Admission

In 2020, under President Trump, the Pentagon officially released videos captured by Navy pilots showing unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) performing maneuvers beyond the capabilities of known aircraft. Trump later told his son in an interview that he had heard “very interesting” things about Roswell, adding, “I’ll have to think about that one.”

President Obama, after leaving office, admitted on The Late Late Show with James Corden that UAPs exist. “What is true... is that there’s footage and records of objects in the skies that we don’t know exactly what they are.”

While no president has offered definitive proof of extraterrestrial contact, the web of secrecy, strange incidents, and official interest suggests a more complex reality. Whether disclosure is on the horizon or forever out of reach, one thing is certain: when it comes to aliens, the White House likely knows more than it says.
