"Oh, Colin! Thank you!" Jana was so happy that she forgot about her injured ankle and tried to stand up, only to fall back onto the sofa in agony a split second later.

"Easy!" Colin laughed as he caught her by the arms and lowered her gently back down, then opened the box of chocolates. "Pick one."

"Oh, no. You go first," Jana said politely. He chose one of the smaller ones.

"This one looks yummy." She selected a milk chocolate square and bit into it. "Oh, wow! Orange creme!"

Colin smiled. "I took a gamble you're a chocoholic."

"You already know me well," Jana replied.

"So, when are your fellow roommates due home?" asked Colin.

"Not till late," Jana replied. "One of Nick's waiters called in sick and he couldn't find a replacement, and Tracy's working a double shift at the hospital." She suddenly thought about what that meant and felt slightly uneasy.

"Never mind," said Colin. "I'll stay with you until one of them gets back."

"Oh, I'll be fine!" said Jana. "I'm sure you have things to do."

"Nothing as important as seeing that you're all right!" After finding an ice pack for Jana's ankle, Colin began rummaging around in the kitchen. "I'm sure you must be quite hungry after a long day of work at the flower shop. I know I'm not as good a cook as Nick, but I've been told my bangers and mash are out of this world."

"Your bangers and what?"

"Bangers and mash. Sausage and potatoes to you Yanks." Quickly he found the ingredients and began to cook. "While I'm at it, I might as well cook you a full English breakfast."

"Breakfast at six in the evening?" asked Jana.

"Sure, why not?"

In addition to the sausage and potatoes, he made fried eggs sunny side up and also cooked mushrooms and sliced tomatoes. He couldn't find any English muffins so made toast instead.

"This is a meal fit for a king!" Jana exclaimed when she tasted it.

"Or a queen, as the case may be," added Colin. "Whoops!" He'd dipped a piece of toast into an egg yolk and then dropped it on his pants.

"Oh, dear!" Jana exclaimed. "That's all right. You can borrow a pair of Nick's pants."

"Are you sure he wouldn't mind?" asked Colin.

"Of course he wouldn't!"

Colin found the pants and washed his in the bathroom sink and hung them on the shower rod to dry. Then he washed the dishes and joined Jana in the living room again, where they talked and laughed together for several hours until Jana began to yawn.

"This kind of weather always makes me sleepy," she said apologetically. "Could you please help me into the bedroom?"

"Um...all right," Colin said awkwardly, blushing slightly. He picked her up, carried her into the bedroom, and sat her on the bed.

"Now, if you could just get my nightgown out, I can manage the rest by myself," said Jana.

Just then, Nick returned home from work and went into the restroom, where he saw Colin's pants hanging over the shower rod. Instantly he was aware of voices coming from the girls' bedroom.

"Up just a little," said Jana. Colin reached for the handle of the drawer above the one he'd been about to open. "Yes, that's it!"

Nick gasped. What are they doing in there? he asked himself. Not that it's any of my business...hey, wait a minute, it is my business! What if that smooth talking tea sipper's in there taking advantage of Jana?

He stalked out of the bathroom and into the girls' bedroom. "Just what do you think you're doing..." He paused when he noticed that Jana and Colin were both still fully clothed and that Jana was sitting on the bed and Colin was standing beside the dresser. "Oh."

"Colin dropped egg on his pants, so I let him borrow a pair of yours," said Jana. "I hope that's OK."

"Oh, sure, of course it is!" Nick laughed nervously. "I saw his pants in the bathroom, so of course I thought...well, I figured he must have dropped egg on them..."

"Yeah, sure you did." Jana threw a pillow at Nick. "I hurt my ankle getting off the bus, and Colin helped me home and made dinner for me. Well, actually it was breakfast, but that's OK. He's such a sweetheart! He got me this big box of chocolates for Valentine's Day!"

"Oh, yeah, that's right! Today's Valentine's Day! I'd forgotten all about it!"

"Why am I not surprised?" asked Jana.

"Well, if everything's in order, I suppose I'll head on over to my place," said Colin. "I hope your ankle's better soon, Jana."

"Thanks so much for dinner, and...everything else," said Jana.

"No problem at all," Colin replied. "I was happy to do it." He kissed Jana good-bye and left.

"So how did you hurt your ankle?" asked Nick.

"I caught my foot in a crack in the pavement and twisted it," Jana said. "If Colin hadn't just happened to be on the same bus, I don't know how I ever would have gotten back home!"

"So he saved the day," Nick mumbled. "Colin Townsend, the big hero."

"Why, Nick! You almost sound like you're jealous!" Jana exclaimed.

"Me? Why should I be jealous?" Nick asked innocently.
