"I didn't say anything before because I didn't want to hurt Tracy's feelings," said Colin. "But you're the one I want to be with." Colin Townsend and Jana were alone together in the apartment. Tracy was at work, and Nick was at the local pub with a date.

"I'm flattered," Jana replied. "But at the same time, I feel just a little guilty."

"No need to feel guilty at all." Colin grinned. "Tracy's a nice girl, but she just doesn't make my heart beat faster the way you do."

"I'm gonna have to tell her somehow." Jana frowned. "But how?"

"We'll tell her together," Colin offered.

"She should be off work in a couple of hours," said Jana. "Can you hang around until then?"

"No problem at all. I'd be happy to." Colin leaned back on the sofa and held his arms out to Jana, and she leaned back against him, resting her head on his shoulder.

"Hey, relax!" He laughed as he massaged her shoulders. "You're all tense!"

"Sorry." Jana giggled nervously. "I'm just not exactly used to being alone with such a handsome, charming, desirable man."

Colin blushed slightly at the compliment. "Well, I promise to be a complete gentleman."

"Oh, I trust you," Jana replied. "I'm just not sure I trust myself."

"I'm sure everything will be fine," Colin assured her.

"So, tell me what it was like to perform before the Queen," said Jana. "I've never met royalty before."

"Oh, it was jolly grand!" Colin exclaimed. "I was so flattered when I heard that she wanted to see me perform. I thought I was going to absolutely die of nervousness, but the whole thing went off swimmingly, and the entire royal family loved the show."

"So why did they never invite you back?" asked Jana.

"It was a tremendous honor just to be invited once," Colin replied. "Do you have any idea how many ventriloquists there are in London dreaming of performing before the Queen?"

"I guess not," said Jana. "But didn't that at least help your career?"

"Not enough. I knew that Los Angeles was the real land of opportunity."

Jana snorted. "You call Timmy's 'opportunity'?"

"It won't be forever, Jana. A better gig will come along soon, I know."

"I know. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sound judgmental."

"That's all right. I don't even look at the girls, really. I just do my act and leave."

Jana knew that he was probably fibbing about not looking at the dancers, but she didn't mind. Any normal red-blooded man would look at them.

The were still chatting comfortably when Tracy arrived home from the hospital several hours later. "Boy, what a night!" she exclaimed as she entered the apartment, a look of dismay quickly registering on her face at the sight of Colin and Jana cuddling together on the sofa. "So, you two..." She motioned back and forth between the two of them.

"We wanted to tell you together," said Colin. "You're a nice girl, Tracy, but Jana's the woman who rocks my world."

"Oh, I see. Well, in that case, I guess the best woman won. Congratulations, Jana." Tracy flounced into the bedroom the two girls shared.

"I hurt her." Colin looked indisputably guilty.

"She'll get over it," Jana said lightly. "She's had her heart broken dozens of times just in the time we've been living here."

"And now I've broken it again," said Colin.

Just then Jana's roommate, and cousin, Nick arrived home from his date. "How did it go?" Jana asked him.

"Pretty good," Nick replied. "You two sure look cozy."

"We just told Tracy," said Jana. "I think she's pretty upset. Perhaps it would help if you talked to her. You know, cheer her up a little."

"I'll see what I can do," said Nick, heading for the girls' bedroom.
