The line I chose was
"The clock struck midnight, and I knew..."
The music is "Wrong" by The Archers Of Loaf
Wrong
The clock struck midnight, and I knew something was wrong. It was 2:45 in the afternoon, but the twenty-four chimes told me, and everyone else it was midnight.
It wasn't.
It was still daylight, and everyone's watch told the true time, but the town hall clock had gone mad.
Then people started going home to bed because the town hall clock had told them it was midnight. A few tried to stop them, but all but about twenty people disappeared, and it was barely three in the afternoon.
The ones that were left decided to go and fix the town hall clock, but they questioned why it had had that effect on the rest of the town.
This had never happened before, and when they got to the town hall clock tower, it was locked, well sealed. The doors were welded shut and the lower windows had been metalled over. This had happened in the last hour.
There were no authority figures left, but someone had done this for some nefarious reason.
Then, there was another noise, getting louder.
They saw a shape rising outside of town, it was like an amorphous cube and should not have been moving, let alone flying. It was also translucent and they could see it was filled with bodies floating in it, live a mobile flying swimming pool.
The people had not gone home to bed, they had been led Pied-Piper like to this vehicle and no one knew why, and they wondered if tomorrow they would be next.
The cube hit the clouds and disappeared.
They looked at the clock tower again and the doors were back to normal and the windows as well.
They could only report this to the police and army, but who would believe them? Though the fact was thousands had disappeared from the town, and the ones that were left had seen what had happened but did not have an explanation for it.

That sure is super shady. Loved your story!
Swimming pool cubes in the sky with townfolk..., I'm sure there's a song in there somewhere. Perhaps someone from The Beatles could enlighten us.
