Who Can Stop The Rain?
It had been a long rainy day. Playing inside most of the day was
more than Mom could handle. The triplets had gotten into
everything. The crashing of Her favorite vase was the last
straw. She stood over the broken vase with an outstretched
arm and a pointing finger. Right off, Jare, Jomi, and Joba were
sent to their room. They marched with unhappy faces to their rainy day prison.
Their room was chaos. Everything in it had been tossed about at least once or twice. Jare wearing his furry hat and gloves, climbed to the top of his sister's bunk. Standing, he imagined he was a bear high up
in a tree. “Grrrrr, what are we gonna do now?” He asked. Looking puzzled down at his two sisters Joba and Jomi. Joba still wearing her superhero cape and a wild hat. She sat
on the side of Jare’s bed. “ I know, let’s play super hero’s,” she suggested. Superheroes were Joba’s favorite. She was never without her red cape. Even in her bath.
Jomi, in her spy glasses and detective coat, pulled back the Curtain. Looking out at the pouring rain and said
“Nah, we have been playing hero’s all day. I’m tired. I think we
should do something about the rain.”
“What could we do about it?” Joba said
Jare grabbed hold of his lightsaber. “We could attack the sky! Make it go away,” Jare said. “Then everyone could go out to play!” Jare started jumping around in attack mode. The
triplets loved playing outdoors. Nothing ever got broken outdoors. “Hey, that’s a great idea!” Joba said. She always agreed with everything said and ran to the closet to get her rain boots.
Jomi fixed her spy glasses and buttoned up her spy coat.
“Follow me,” she said quietly. “ I can see things in my glasses no
one else can see!”(meaning mommy)
Moving slyly down the hallway. Then out the back door, the triplets all went.
Making sure they were unnoticed by Mommy.
The rain was pouring down. “Oh, this is fun,” Joba said, beginning to get soaked.
Jomi said,” We’re getting all wet; what are we gonna do now?”
Jare looking at the cloudy sky. He replied, “ Well, it’s bigger than I
remembered. I can do a rain dance.”
He started with some silly moves and sounds. In that hat, he
looked like a funky chicken. His furry hat was now floppy.
His big ears sticking out from under it.
Jare had been dancing for a couple minutes. The girls waited for
the rain to stop.
“I don’t think your dance is working, “ Jomi said.
“ Me either, I think it’s beginning to rain even harder,” said
Joba. Looks like a rain dance means more rain,” Jomi said.
“Well, you try it! “snapped Jare stopping his dance.
“I know a bit of magic; I can trick it, “said Joba. She was standing in her rain boots.
Her wet curly hair and superhero cape getting soaked. Joba grabbed a stick and
raised her arms toward the raining sky. She Shouted in her loudest voice. She wanted to
make sure the rain could hear. This was magic, after all. It always worked. She said, “ Ah-bra-ca, dab-bra- ca and hocus focus,” and some more words she
didn’t even understand. Jare and Jomi stood by, looking puzzled
and listening. By now, the three were sopping in rainwater.
But when Joba had finished her magic, still pouring rain. So the magic act didn’t work.
“That was good magic, but I don’t think the rain understood,” Jomi said. “Yeah, nothing’s working, “ Jare said. We can’t take too much
more of this.” The three now looked unrecognizable. Their curly hair dripped with water. Their Hats were sopping wet. And their dress-up clothes were soaked.
“Well, I think we should sing the sky a song. We all like singing,” Jomi said. Jare, in disbelief, slapped his hand over his forehead. Rainwater splashed from his head. This was even worse than the magic act, he thought.
“It’s worth a try. We’ve tried everything else,“ Joba said. “What are we gonna sing?”
“What else?” Jomi said in an unmistakable tone. “Rain Rain, Go Away, duh-uh!”
So the triplets began to sing. “ Rain, rain go away, don’t come back another day!!” By the fifth time they repeated those words, their voices began to droop. This job was exhausting, and the triplets had dripping raindrops from their faces. Now they had grown cold.
“Are you crying, Jare? “ Jomi asked puzzlingly. Breaking the harmony between the three of them. “No, but I’m about to start! ” Jare replied.
“Me too, I think the rain is winning!” said Joba.
After having given it their best, none of the triplets had been able to stop the rain.
Just as they were beginning to give up. Suddenly there was a loud shrieking call!
“JARE, JOMI, JOBA!!!” It was Mommy. They recognized the voice. Oh no, the triplets thought to themselves! Not the THREEMAGEDDON call! The triplets were done. They knew what was coming.
A few hours later, after the hot soup, a bath, and warm pajamas. Mommy kissed the triplets goodnight. Turned out the
light. Shut their bedroom door. It had been an exhausting day.
The triplets were snuggled in their bed’s still listening to the falling rain.
Suddenly, Jare sat up in bed and asked, ”Who can stop the rain?
“Only Mommy can stop the rain!” said Jomi.
They all giggled. It had been a long day. And the triplets slept
dry and peacefully the rest of the night. All dreaming of a drier tomorrow.
