When I Was Fifteen, I Stayed With A Friend And Her Family

I remember when her parents took a snowy getaway to a big city and we had a cabin getaway from the folks!

Sarah was so funny that she almost always had me laughing. She was one of my favorite friends ever. This year she was going to be the first one to swim at the dam when the ice broke up.

She jumped in and out and said she could say she was the first one to swim. I said that she could if she had actually swam! We both laughed as she jumped in again.

She swam in a big circle and hollered up, "Did that count?" I said yes and get out of there now! She got out and was the colors blue and purple.

That week her parents asked if they were safe to leave us home alone as her dad's sister was in the hospital and they wanted to make a quick trip to visit her. We, of course, said yes. And worked to convince them as they were going to leave us alone for the weekend.

We both knew that it would be a perfect weekend for a party! We thought we could stay in the cabin on the property and they wouldn't know anything about the party!

The first morning we woke in the cabin, Sarah came running through the house with a big flannel shirt and work boots and little else. She was carrying a shotgun! All of a sudden there was a shotgun blast right outside the door.

A poor gartner snake lay dead on the walkway into the cabin.

Then the planning started for the party over breakfast. We would start making phone calls and getting the cabin ready for a party. Then later I would drive into town with my mother's car that she borrowed to me and bring back both kids and booze.

When the party was in full swing we realized we may not have enough refreshments and decided to take a quick trip into town. It wouldn't take long we told our guests and headed out.

When we were in town we decided to stop at a church that was having a high school dance. Sarah wanted to stop. She said she had to go to the bathroom. She wanted to snoop around.

So, once she had snooped and invited a few more kids to the party, she and I went to use the bathroom.

When in the bathroom, we found it to be a single-seater. We had run into that before and our pattern was to be the first to sit down on the toilet and if the other person had to go bad, then they would use the sink. It always worked for me, but this was her first time and she broke the sink.

Water squirted all over. The church people recognized us and after seeing the mess we left in the bathroom, they first called Sarah's house, then mine. When we got home and heard they had called, we didn't think anything of it as her parents didn't get the call.

I was making out in the car with a newer boyfriend, that was a bit concerned about my older boyfriend that had recently moved out of town.

Just then my mother pulled up and he was freaked. It may be why we didn't go out again after that experience as my mother told him to get in the backseat and that she was taking everyone home that I brought to the party.

She ended up not just taking the people but several cases of beer that she didn't know anything about until they were leaving the car.

On the way home after dropping the others off, I got the dry heaves and swore I would never do that again. I remember all of that and not much about the snowy cabin scene! I know it was beautiful, but I remember the mess and the laughs, rather than the beauty and fun of a snowy cabin weekend!
