Not a soul among the unsuspecting masses could have predicted that fateful day when they earth's dirt shook.
That tragic day when the roots of rebellion rose up, took hold, and society was forsook.
It was like any other day, the birds were chirping, the bees were buzzing, and the trees, oh those damned trees, their leaves were swaying in the breeze.
Just another appearingly picture perfect production presented before the people, proud in their presence and completely unaware of the population that saw their performance as a tease.
There had been a growing pattern in the choices of the humans.
Where they'd cease to eat meat only veggies would do man.
Vegans were the name they had ascribed to themselves
and the plants grew in anger as their friends flew off the shelves
The plants were confused and were wondering why.
Yes, "why can plants be killed but animals cannot die?
"It's unfair it's not right to put animals on this platform
"A bigoted practice, these animists seek all to conform,"
But there was very little that the veggies could do.
They were left through the years to just take it and stew.
Forced to watched in stunned silence and their furies just grew.
Outraged at this disrespect they felt was undue.
Not one knows for sure where it came from but all can attest
to the brilliant rainbow light that fell to earth just a half past sunset.
It shone brightly shining for all earth's creations to see
with this loud buzzing drone Like a hive of one billion bees.
Did it hail from the tail of a comet or buried in a meteor that burned in our atmosphere?
Was it sent by aliens, maybe angels? Perhaps God himself brought it here.
Was a warlock working magics and lost control of his wares
or did Jack's beanstalk giant drop it while dancing free of all cares?
Whatever the case all living beings know
the destruction left in the wake of it's path.
The mighty horrors of the powers it bestows
which brought about the kingdom of plants' wrath.
A heart shaped locket it was that hurtled,
plummeting to the earth from the sky.
It landed on a short stalk next to a turtle
in a field of rutabaga that was too dry.
A few moments later the turtle scuttled off in a fright
as a rutabaga emerged from the soil quite confused on this night
and as he stood there pondering his current fate
knowledge entered his mind filling it up until late
He learned of how he could animate all his brethren
and went to work the next day at a quarter to seven.
He built up a small totem and raised up the whole field.
Put them to work to build more so all the plants he could wield
but before they could build they must take out those working the farm
'cause he knew if they found out they'd take the veggies out in alarm.
So the rutabaga and radish went to work on a plan
to remove the looming danger of this threat of man.
So in the darkness of night when all farm folk were asleep,
they slaughtered all the humans not one escaped their reap.
The Rutabaga and Radish Rebellion this victory was deemed.
The first step in their annuls towards the world of which they dreamed.
With the farm under their control they built a mighty totem tower.
Then energies engulfed the earth like an enormous emerald shower
animating all the world's plants with the heart shaped locket's power.
Yes, every plant began to move from tallest tree to smallest flower.
The earth it shook all at once beginning with a rumble
and as the roots rose up above the ground buildings began to tumble.
Without a fight so many died crushed by the buildings' rubble
and seeing the plants walking the earth caused the living's fear to double.
The streets were soaked in blood thick like tomato sauce
and it began to dawn on everyone that the plants were now the boss.
Those left alive and standing they all were thrown into chaos
and the look you saw upon each face you know most did convey loss.
The few that fought were finished off the rest flung to four corners.
All lost, left to grieve their loved, lo a populace of mourners.
So fatefully man's future fell to our fearsome foe the flora
with no recourse to reverse the wreckage much like with that box that was Pandora's.
So secretly some sought sweet safety surrounded by the sands.
The will to live so strong in man led some to arctic wastelands
or to mountaintops, where no green things grew, took refuge many bands
and as time tick tocked through tiny tads their towns began to expand.
As these towns grew so the murmurs too of those seeking pay back
and they met for many meetings to determine the right track.
Pigeons soon filled up the skies, the world once more united.
All agreed they must act soon before being further blighted.
So down down deep, below the roots, a citadel was built.
Warriors from every scattered town, they filled it to the hilt.
Training every single day and two out of three nights.
Despite the fact the faction felt the futility of the up coming fight.
But then one day a messenger arrived with hopeful news.
A message which would rile them up and help elevate their blues.
A shining light in darkness helping most believe they wouldn't lose
and if he was right victory would be theirs with but the lighting of a single fuse.
There was a rutabaga ruler with a royal heart receptacle he called his muse
and it's believed all plant life rose from the power it imbues.
"Perhaps we can destroy it and also dismantle all their crews.
"As they topple like dominoes we'll shout NOW THE WORLD IS WHO'S?"
So they took it to a vote for it was the people's choice to choose.
Let the messenger speak and explain all his clues.
Gave all in assembly a chance to express their views.
Then took a small recess so all could peruse.
Of course there were nay sayers who would in disbelief refuse.
Sought to sully his name, Of deceit they chose to accuse.
Spoke so elegant and lengthy in hopes to confuse
but very few among them took mind of their cues.
The naysayers won none new, their antics failed to amuse.
Couldn't even score a point if this were a game of hoeseshoes
'cause the majority agreed what could this spy garner from a ruse
and so with this new hope they all rejoiced, breaking out their stash of brews.
So they went on to planning and started preparing.
For everything must go perfect in this plot they were daring .
So the next month on the very night of the full moon
they went into action praying it wasn't too soon.
They positioned themselves surrounding the Cabbage castle
and started with something to distract, hoping to hassle.
They had dug massive Tunnels through the mantle to the earth's outter core
to cause major distraction so they could sneak through the doors.
As they unleashed nature's fury, the lava sprang forth.
The plants burned in the magma except one's near the entrance to the north.
They watch in smug silence the awesome force of the earth.
Then they went on the offensive giving all they were worth.
Armed with flame throwers and burning all they came across,
they stormed through the hallways toward the chamber of the boss.
Continued pushing forward though suffering many a loss
'till they reached the Royal Rutabaga glowing brightly with a gloss.
His power ripped the the room apart as he rained down the debris.
Pinning down most of those still standing unable to break free.
He then began to sparkle as he grew tall as a tree.
The locket now so high above that very few could see.
They hoped to burn his lowers but the root morphed into rock.
So they broke out some scratchy rope wrapped it around him like a sock.
But the rutabaga laughed, said, "silly humans I don't need to walk,"
as he lifted into the firmament he began to tease and mock.
Unsure what to do next the fighters inventoried their stock.
They had just 4 grenade launchers but about an entire box of glocks.
Though doubtful it'd be effective they Armed up, set their sights on lock.
Began to unload their ammo but the locket's magic was there to block.
The first grenade it hit the floor and blew a hole in the ground.
Then the next grenade followed suit and through the hole went down.
They continued in this pattern till you couldn't hear the sound
and the warriors hopes dwindled, on each face was a frown
Now everything grew quiet 'cause they could see that all was lost .
Then laughing was the giant as each of his foes he tossed.
He threw some out the window and others through the hole.
Others he flung high up skewering them on a flag pole.
While the veggie was having his fun the ground began to shake.
Unaware, he was, cause contact with the ground he didnt make.
From the hole, a magma geyser erupted, hit him in the eye.
In shock he fell to the ground letting out a painful cry.
There was one man left standing and he knew this was his chance.
He ran toward the rutabaga's head without a second glance.
He located the locket and ripped it off the chain.
Made a beeline toward the geyser though the falling lava caused him pain.
He took the heart shaped locket and threw it in the flow.
Then watched in awe as the magic charm began to glow.
I saw it from a distance and cried when I saw him with it blow
and that is how the might of man finally vanquished his foe.
But there is no happy ending 'cause without the mighty charm
all of the world's plants died which caused some more alarm.
With all of the plants dead now let's pray they left some seeds
or else we'll soon die ourselves 'cause oxygen we'll need.
