There is no one who does not know about Raigama and Gampala. Katta and Vettapittala are two such tricksters.
Due to the cunning work of two friends in a village, the villagers called them Katta and Vettapittala. Despite trying various tricks to make ends meet, they could not do much with them.
' This work is not going to work! We will have to do something else!' said the Katta.
' So we both do not know how to do anything! ' That was Vettapittala.
' Let's start telling sattara!' Vettapittala liked Katta's idea because he knew that it was a task that the tricksters could easily do.
Since they could not do this in their village, the two went to another village, stayed in Ambalama, and advertised that a sattharakar had come to the village. The kattaya was the one who helped them.
That same night, the kattaya stole a cow that was tied to a tree in a village house and tied it to a remote place! In the morning, the owner, who was looking for his cow, came to Ambalama to meet the newly arrived sattharakar and learn about the cow.
Now, Vettapittalaya was the place where the sattharakar lived, and the owner was sent to bring it. The owner who got the cow was very happy and treated the two to food and drink.
Hearing this satthara story, the village headman also wanted to hear a satthara. It was about his lost ilaththattattu. The next day, both of them agreed to tell the sattharakar and came to Ambalama.
That night, both of them thought about this. The village headman, like the others, cannot lie.
'It's our Karume!' The Vettapittala was told loudly.
This ilattattuwa had been stolen by a guy from the same village, named Karune. He had hidden in the ambalam that night to see if these Sattharakaras would find him. It was Karume who heard it, as if it was Karune. Thinking that he had been caught, Karune ran up to them and bowed down to them both,
'Please don't catch me. The village headman will kill me! I'll tell you where the ilattattuwa is!'
Now the Sattharakaras both understood the matter.
'Okay, we won't catch you! Leave the ilattattuwa there!'
The next day, both of them went and told the exact place where the ilattattuwa was. But they didn't want to catch the thief.
After deceiving people in this way for some time, a man on a ship that had arrived at the port of that country challenged the king, saying that if anyone in that country could tell him what was inside a box he had, he would give all the treasures on the ship to the king. If he could not, he would have to hand over the kingdom of the country.
He had to tell him within seven days. The king, wondering what this was for our sattharakaras, accepted the challenge.
Then the king beat a drum and asked if anyone could come forward. No one came.
When the village headman of the village where the couple was, he heard about this drumming and stopped it. When he told them about the sattharakaras in his village, the king's men came and took the two to the king.
The king ordered that they be given food and drink
and a place to stay, and on the seventh day they could come and tell the satthara.
Now there was nothing for these two to do. After six days of fasting, on the night of the last day, both of them thought of a way to commit suicide. Because they knew that it would not be easy to suffer the king's death sentence!
Finally, they decided to jump into the sea and swim as far as they could. If they lost their limbs, they would drown and die!
So they both went to jump into the sea. Now they were going to jump near that ship. They both heard a story.
'Grandpa! Grandpa! I will not sleep until you tell me what is in that box! How many days have I been waiting to hear it?'
' I can find out tomorrow!'
' No, no, I want to know right now! I have to tell you today! They always lie and say they will tell you tomorrow!'
' Okay! There are six more boxes inside that box. Inside the seventh box, the last one, there is a bottle of wonderful perfume!'
Why would you die again after hearing this? Both of them returned.
The next day, Vettapittala went to the palace, made some carvings in front of everyone, and finally said this.
' When you open this box, there is another box. When you open that, there is another box. When you open the seventh box, there is a perfume bottle inside. '
The box was opened in front of the king. The seven were right!
In the meantime, the seven secretly went to the house where they were and set it on fire. When the house caught fire, they put both their hands in the fire and let it burn a little. After doing so, they ran to the palace.
They went and hugged Vettapittala, lamented and started crying.
' Oh, our house is on fire. I tried to save our seven books, but it didn't work. My hands were also burned. From now on, we will be called seven! '
The king heard this and asked them both to come. The king, who looked at the two hands of the trickster, was very sad.
'It doesn't matter if you don't say anything from now on! I will give you a sufficient share of the wealth I have found to live on! Live comfortably with it!'
The two tricksters built houses with the wealth they had received, and lived happily.
