Gunnarsson’s bullet pierced the wretched gray’s skin. It crumbled into a puss-colored cloud of component biological atoms that attracted and coalesced on its nearest hive-mate.

He longed for a simple pirate hold raid. Pirates stayed dead.

His remaining adversaries poured volleys down from their organic rifles, forcing Gunnarsson to hunker against the shuttle carcass, the impacts pulsing through the metal. If the dead Gray synthesized with the other, he’d run out of lead before the resulting monstrosity ripped his spine out.

As he prepared a last-ditch counterattack… the pulsing abruptly ceased.

“Chalk Two on-site. You alive, Private?”

“About damned time.”

Glad to finally get back to this series. I'm loving the subtle dose of body horror you put into this installment, very Dead Space esque!

I loved the opening paragraph. The description of the resiliency was very well constructed. I got the visual right away. This was an exciting dose, Matt. Well done.
