Today And Yesterday In One Story
Magic and Medicine
I wish I may, I wish I might feel alright, all better tonight!
My personnal directions for a spell:
"2 Cups For Improving Your Health And Feeling GREAT" (all you'll need is 2 large cups, water, 1 pencil, 1 piece of tape, and 1 large piece of paper. Spend just 5 minutes doing this simple ritual every day as an aid in improving your health… and feeling better than ever!)
Now, how much will it cost for me to get the directions for what to do with the rest of the information? I could pay someone to work this spell for me. No, I don't think so.
I have known a witch or two or three in my time. Actually two told me that they were hags. I have been invited to participate a time or two in a coven. I haven't taken anyone up on doing that.
I am Native American and understand enough about medicine and what can be done without participating in any other culture's medicine.

Several hundred years ago, a coven came to our home area. They were escaping from their homeland as they were going to be killed for practicing an ancient way of being that was handed down over the centuries. The reason was fear.
Our medicine man told them that the people they had fled from were willing to put an end to them as they feared the unknown. They had fear that life as they knew it would never be the same.
The medicine man told them that the same thing would happen to his people. That they were safe living by his people for now. At some point most of his people would be made to move too and would be placed on land that the ones who placed them there didn't want.
The thing is, his people would never be safe. Like theirs people are afraid of what they don't understand. Special gifts that individuals have are in all people. Some know the importance of concealing the gifts. Some are not even aware that everyone doesn't have the same gifts that they do.
Things will change for the better for your people, but there will always be that fear of saying or doing too much. Your practices and rituals will change over time as they have to. Your people will find ways to live with the others.
There "shared beliefs, traditions and blood ties" were mixed with some of the Native peoples over time. There communities overlapped in some places. Medicine people became aware of the use of the crystal to seeing the past and future.
Some Native peoples learned about some of the covens black magic that they were forbidden to use but were aware of. And some of the coven were made aware of some of the bad medicine Native people knew of and didn't use.
Then we had people disappearing and stray dogs, cats and other critters appearing. The black magic spell and bad medicine givers were aging before our eyes and turning ugly inside and out.
This scared all the other people and it was unsafe for anyone to leave their own community. The time it was especially powerful black magic and bad medicine would flow was on Halloween.
All people were hurt by this.
So they all got together for the sake of their children to make a truce during the month of October and especially on Halloween. All people from all communities could dress as someone else for the day and no medicine, no spells cast, no magic on this day.

I dress to fit into the coven in the picture above. I think they are cute and since I have been doing that for many years on Halloween, I am not as cute as I used to be! The new photo will be out in a few more weeks.
I should warn you though, the Native American does not approve of your wearing Native regalia or outfits of the Native people. That could come back on you! And it is not nice to say costume for Native American outfits or regalia. Thank you for respecting this!

Fanrastic!!! Denise, your story is awesome!!! Loved youe historical fiction!!!❤️❤️💕
Respect is due where respect is due. Halloweeners should stick to that which they know and understand. One never knows when we are encroaching on other people's belief and pain. If witches joined with Native Americans, what a great harvest there would be, of food, not people....still hmmm!
I love this kind of magical lore, good luck with the challenge 😊
Oooo, this was such a fascinating story abd the history was so cool! Loved your take on this challenge!
