The Water Diviner's Tale

Y2

By James GreenPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

The man had always been fascinated by the way the water diviner held his Y-shaped stick and walked slowly over the parched land. He had seen it done many times before, but had never actually tried it himself. So, when he found himself in a drought-stricken area with a desperate need for water, he decided to give it a go.

He purchased a divining rod and set off into the arid wilderness, determined to find water. As he walked, he couldn't help but feel a sense of dread creeping over him. The land was dry and lifeless, and he knew the chances of finding water were slim.

But he persisted, and after several hours of walking, the divining rod suddenly twitched in his hands. Excitedly, he followed the direction it was pulling him in, his heart racing with hope.

As he drew closer to the spot where the rod was leading him, he noticed a strange figure standing in the distance. It was a man, tall and thin, with a gaunt face and piercing eyes. He was dressed in tattered clothing and seemed to be staring directly at the water diviner.

The man was intimidated, but he knew he had to keep moving. He followed the rod to a patch of ground where it began to shake violently in his hands. This was it - he had found water.

Excitedly, he began to dig, and soon a small stream of clear water emerged. The man couldn't believe his luck. He had done it - he had found water using a divining rod.

As he stood there, filling up his canteen with the life-giving water, he couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. The strange man was still standing in the distance, watching him. Suddenly, the man started shouting nonsensical poetical phrases at the water diviner.

"The water flows like a river of gold,

A treasure to behold,

But beware the siren's song,

For she will lead you astray,

To a fate most grim and grey."

The water diviner was taken aback by the man's strange behaviour and tried to ignore him, focusing on his task. But the man continued to shout and recite poetry, his voice growing louder and more frenzied.

When he was finished, the water diviner quickly gathered his things and began the long walk back to civilisation, his heart full of gratitude but also a sense of unease. Every time he looked back, the strange man was there, standing in the same spot and watching him. The water diviner quickened his pace, hoping to put as much distance between them as possible.

But no matter how fast he walked, the strange man always seemed to be there, a constant presence on the horizon. The water diviner couldn't shake the feeling that the man was following him, even though he never got any closer. It was as if he was taunting him, reminding him of his presence.

By the time the water diviner reached civilization, he was exhausted and paranoid. He couldn't shake the memory of the strange man and became obsessed with finding out who he was and what he wanted. But no matter how hard he looked, he couldn't find any information or leads. The strange man remained a mystery, a shadowy figure haunting his thoughts.

The water diviner tried to put the strange man out of his mind and focus on the task at hand - saving his farm and his community. He shared the water with his family and neighbours, and together they worked to revive their parched land.

But the memory of the strange man lingered, always present in the back of his mind. He couldn't shake the feeling that the man was still out there, watching and waiting. The water diviner knew that he had to be vigilant and protect what was most important to him - his loved ones and his way of life.

As he went about his daily tasks, the water diviner couldn't shake the feeling that he was being watched. He found himself constantly looking over his shoulder, expecting to see the strange man lurking in the shadows. He became paranoid and anxious, worried that the man would try to harm him or his family.

Despite his concerns, the water diviner knew he had to stay strong and protect what he had found. He worked tirelessly to secure the water source and ensure that his community had enough to survive. And as the days went by and the strange man never appeared, he began to relax and let go of his fear.

But the memory of the strange man remained, a constant reminder of the dangers that lurked in the wilderness. And the water diviner knew that he had to always be on guard, ready to defend what was most important to him.
