The Wandering Mind of Willow

A Rabbit's Journey from Thought to Paradise

By Fazal MalikPublished 6 months ago 3 min read

In a quiet meadow surrounded by silver birch trees and soft rolling hills, there lived a rabbit named Willow. He was not like the other rabbits who spent their days hopping around collecting food or playing in the sun. Willow was different. He had a habit—some called it strange, others charming—of getting lost in his thoughts.

While others nibbled on clovers, Willow would sit still, eyes half-closed, thinking. He would imagine forests that glowed with golden light, rivers that whispered secrets, and skies filled with stars that sang lullabies. He would dream of places he’d never seen but felt he had visited a thousand times in his mind.

“Willow!” the other rabbits would call, “Come back to us! You’ll get lost!”

But Willow would smile gently and respond, “Sometimes, I think I’m finding myself.”

One misty morning, Willow sat beneath a tall dandelion, thinking again. A breeze swept over the meadow, and he closed his eyes. He imagined a place filled with warm winds, glowing flowers, and trees that hummed with peace. And then—something unusual happened.

When he opened his eyes, the meadow was gone.

Willow stood up and looked around. He wasn’t frightened. The world around him had changed, but it was the world he had seen in his thoughts for so long. A sky painted with soft lavender clouds stretched above. The trees shimmered with leaves of silver and emerald. The grass sparkled with dew, and the air felt like music.

Was he dreaming? Had his thoughts become real?

He wandered forward, each step making the new world more vivid. Birds with feathers like rainbows flew overhead, and butterflies the size of his ears floated by. The sun above wasn’t hot or blinding—it was soft, golden, and warm, like the touch of a friend.

Willow found a brook that giggled as it flowed. He drank from it, and it tasted like the first drops of spring. Around him, every flower seemed to lean toward him as if welcoming him home. This place—wherever it was—felt like it had been waiting for him.

“I must be in a paradise,” Willow whispered.

He followed the brook until it led to a small glade where the grass was thick and the trees stood tall like gentle guardians. There were no dangers, no noise, and no rush. Just peace.

As the days passed, Willow made this place his home. He built a small nest near the brook and spent his time talking to the wind, playing with glowing insects, and resting under the warm light of the sky.

Strangely, he never felt alone. The land itself seemed to speak to him. When he was happy, the flowers bloomed brighter. When he was sleepy, the trees swayed and sang him lullabies. When he felt playful, the wind joined him in games, tickling his ears and making the leaves dance.

Back in the meadow, the other rabbits searched for Willow. They missed his quiet smile and dreamy gaze. But he was no longer there. Willow had followed a path no paw had ever touched—a path paved by thought, wonder, and dreams.

In the paradise place, time flowed differently. Minutes could stretch like hours or pass in a blink. Willow didn’t count the days. He simply lived.

One twilight, as the stars began to twinkle like diamonds in velvet, Willow sat by the brook and thought about his old meadow. He didn’t feel sad. He knew he had not left because he was lost. He had found where he truly belonged—a place shaped by wonder, where thoughts had power and dreams had roots.

And though he never returned to the world he once knew, some say his spirit remains in every rabbit who stops, stares at the sky, and gets lost in their thoughts.

Because sometimes, being lost is how you find the most beautiful places of all.
