At her mother’s childhood home, which was still owned by her grandfather Charlie, there was a single pear tree standing.

If you were in the kitchen all you had to do was look out the window and there it was. In the winter time, when it was covered by snow it was so beautiful. Just the right amount of white covered the pear tree to make it look just magical.

Amanda was looking out the window at the pear tree when her son came up to her and asked what she was looking at. She pointed to the kitchen table with her hand, "Let us sit down and I will tell you the story." she told him. She led him to the table and told him about why that old pear tree meant so much to her, while they made a home made pear pie fresh from the tree outside.

"When I was young, my favorite uncle, his name was Elmer, was someone I always cherished spending time with. I would love to be at his house. I loved going out with him and playing with him in the yard."

She grabbed the dough and gave some to her son. "Where was I? Oh yes, I remember now.”

"Uncle Elmer and I would come to this tree, and we would live with it, my mom and I enjoyed the tree too."

"Mommy, what do you mean live in it? Was it your tree house?"

She laughed. "No, sweetie. It is not a tree house. I did not live in it, I lived with it. What I mean is that I played with that tree, I planted that tree, I took pictures at that tree, I picked fresh fruits with my family from that tree. It seems like every single thing I did in my childhood revolved around that pear tree. Do you understand?"

"Yes, mommy I understand. What else?"

"Well, your daddy proposed to mommy at that pear tree."

"He did!?"

"Yes, he did."

"Tell me that story too mama. Pleeeeeeese!"

She laughed. "Okay honey, I will."

"The day your grandma died, I came to this pear tree. I sat here in front of it, and I cried."

"Me no like that mama."

"I am okay because I have you my sweet love."

He smiled. He loved his mommy, and she loved her son. He gave her a big hug and a kiss.

"Your dad found me at the tree, and he talked to me about my mom. He put his hand out for me to stand up and told me to look up to the clouds. He said anytime I felt scared or alone, look up to the clouds and what I feel will be my mom looking out for me. He turned me around and got down on his knee. He pulled out a ring box. He said he would always be there for me as well. That he loved me, and he wanted a life with me. He told he would be there for me always and he would be my shoulder to cry on. He would be my rock, my best friend. Then he asked me if I would marry him and let him spend his life going through every sadness together."

"That sweet mama."

"One day, I hope you have find memories of that pear tree."

She took the pie out of the oven and put the pie in the oven that she and her son just made together.

"How long it takes mama?" About twenty minutes. How about some lemonade?"

"Ok. Then pie right mommy?"

"Yes, sweetie."

20 minutes later...

"It done mama. I heard it ding."

"Okay, what do you think?"

"It good. That pear tree is yummy!”
