In a world far away, there was the Unreality. Since the beginning of time, this world has existed beyond knowledge. Because no being can physically travel to the Unreality. It wasn’t until people in the 1950s discovered ‘dreaming’ which allowed them to communicate with the walls of the Unreality. However, they never knew it was a different world. People believed that the 'dreams' could interpret what was going to happen in the individual's near life, like mind riddles. By analyzing every inch of the dream, it could mean several things. Such as falling could be a sign of fear of failure, or being chased could be a sign of desire to escape a fear. The meanings are endless, to the point there is no surefire way of interpreting them.
Could it be true they’d mean anything at all, though?
Yes.
Because the Unreality isn’t just one world - it’s many worlds. This explains why everyone’s dreams differ vastly from each other. People from Earth may dream about their own surroundings, and the Unreality replicates an illogical version of it. Which makes the dreams seem odd but familiar.
When they went to sleep, their soul would leave the physical body in stasis. The person could manifest themself a new body by communicating to the other world through their mind, making their existence true in the Unreality.
Except, they cannot completely die here. Instead, they’ll just respawn elsewhere. Wrongdoers have to be put into prison-like areas, as there is no way to eliminate them. Typically, the Unreality maintains these areas within its vast boundaries.
However, the Unreality has its own security and law system. The individual’s passage is determined by a set of trials which explore the individual’s level of imagination. If they cannot imagine, they cannot dream. This results in the unreality locking those individuals out for an extended period, rendering them unable to dream but capable of sleeping.
Those who successfully pass the trials, gets transferred to one of the Unreality’s worlds. They will initially find themself looking like their human self, and have trouble moving or talking. This is because they need to adapt to the different levels of gravity, which is what makes these worlds work so illogical.
This can take time to adapt to, so the Unreality will frequently send them into so-called timescapes, which are smaller instances inside one of its worlds. These timescapes make individuals dream about being chased, see weird things, or continuously dream the same dream in a loop.
Once they’ve found control of their self, they enter a lucid state which will enable them to move more freely, at which the Unreality will get them out of the timescape. This also lets them imagine their new persona, no longer having to be a human.
Everyone who’s in such a world sees everyone and everything differently than one another. For example, you may be a centaur and see a deer, but the deer sees you as a lion. While the deer thinks it’s in the savanna, but you’re seeing a forest around you. This is the illusionary trickery of the Unreality, having everyone dream about different things while still existing on the same plane and space.
Having achieved clairvoyance this far, some people see their dreams as a form of second life. A new chance at becoming who they really wanted to be in their wake life. Some go as far as just wanting to be in that world, ending their wake life, hoping to be one with it forever rather than temporarily on the nights when they sleep. However, no one knows if killing your wake self would burst the connection, so experts advise against it.
Experts have also found out that your soul in the Unreality does not simply vanish when the individual wakes up. Your soul sleeps when you aren’t, meaning they still exist in that world and everyone who’s still dreaming can see you.
This may result in their soul sometimes being moved or pickpocketed, leading to confusion the next time the individual dreams. It’s also not impossible for that soul to sleepwalk or talk in their sleep randomly.
As a conclusion, the Unreality is a remarkable phenomenon. No one knows how it exists, but that it does beyond our own world. Highly clairvoyant dreamers believes that it serves a purpose, which isn’t to make us wish we were someone else, but to teach us that anything is possible with imagination.
Without imagination, we wouldn’t be creatively minded. We would be an empty shell of nothingness.
