The Snowy Owl

By Timothy E JonesPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

The little white rabbit ventured out into the freshly fallen snow frolicking and digging through the snow for the grass that was buried by it. He had ventured a bit farther away from his little hole than he intended, but not so far that he couldn't get back. But the skies were clear of predator birds, and the wolves were far away.

And far away was where the snowy owl was, perched in a pine tree 300 feet away, not too far as the owl flies. From there he was able to watch the white rabbit's movement in the white snow. And yes, he could tell the difference.

He let the rabbit get his fill of the grass, so he would be a bit weighed down, causing him not to run as fast. Not that it mattered, with the ability to fly to 50 miles an hour, and to seemingly appear out of nowhere with its attack call.

Yes, the white rabbit was unaware of what was coming, until he heard the sound a guttural "krufff-guh-guh-guk", he looked at the source of the sound just in time to see the giant white owl swooping down at him, his bright golden eyes fixed on him and his long sharp talons ready to grab him. He tried to run back to the safety of his hole, but it was too little too late. Those talons were already in his back and the giant powerful beak snapped his neck like a dry twig.
