The Feat of Sir Jon De-Court

Jon worked his way up to being a proper knight all the way up from a child. Finally, once he proved himself to the king after fending off an assassin. He was knighted Sir Jon De-Court, because his entire life was spent in the confines of the court and the knights, which he had just that moment had become.
"Sir Jon," the King held out a scroll for him to take, "this must not leave your person until you personally deliver it to the king that sent out this failed assassin that lies at our feet."
"Yes sir!" Jon exclaimed.
"And if you don't come back in 3 days, I shall know his answer."
"Yes sir," Jon was much less enthusiastic.
"Now go, deliver this message."
"Yes sir!"
It was a day's ride through snow, and even on a proper horse, it was a treacherous journey, but like a good messenger, he got the scroll to the enemy king.
"Well," the enemy king stood outside his castle, "I'm not even going to ask how you got past all of my men."
"Just have a message for you," Jon held out the scroll.
The enemy king read the scroll. "He mocks me! The assassin I sent was the best!"
"What is your response?"
"Defend yourself!"
"But I'm just the messenger."
"So..." the king cut through Jon, who dropped his sword into the snow, blood surrounding it, "...what!?"
