The Elves and The Shoemaker

Crystal and Mimi Cherry Merry’s Story

Shoemakers have been around since the early 1600s. A welcome and useful skill of the time. Now shoes are massed produced and have lost a little originality.

I know that you have heard about the elves that helped the shoemaker, but have you been told about the little elves that help today? You probably think them myth. But have you ever fallen asleep just to wake up and something got done that you swear you didn’t do? The little elves have been helping people for centuries. Advancing with time itself. Who do you think gave us technology at the tips of our fingers? People? They have been proudly ushering the world along with no credit, sight unseen until now.

Crystal’s love affair with shoes started when she was just a little girl. She was always wearing her mother’s high heels and walked on her tippy toes when she couldn’t. Crystal would sit and sketch out the designs that floated around in her head for hours on end teaching herself the delicate nature of footwear. High arches and comfortability. Style and a signature mark. She worked diligently hoping to start out at a big company and eventually having a brand of her own. But all Crystal could manage to do after Fashion Design school was land a job in the marketing department. She figured if she couldn’t make the shoes at the very least, she could sell them to stores for the world of customers that love shoes just like her. Year after year went by and Crystal let her dream fall by the wayside. She had responsibilities and life to afford. There was no time to live out her truest passion. Designing her own shoes. So she settled for watching other peoples dreams come true at her company, every time she secured a dream come true for them. That is until she met Mimi Cherry Merry.

Mimi Cherry Merry is a helper elf. She comes from a long line of Merry elves that love to help people realize their dreams. Her specific joy? Shoes. Mimi is a direct descendant of the shoemakers of old. She was a precocious little elf. Always ahead of the class and taking her inspirations duties seriously. Mimi’s only problem? Executing. Even with small training tasks, she often would jump the gun and allow the human to see her perform her miracles somehow.

Then the clean-up crew elves would have to come in with the memory dust and erase the little elf from the human’s memory. They didn’t like doing this cause you can’t be all that sure what you are erasing in that small window of time. But the secrets proved necessary. Humans needed to feel like they achieved the impossible. It helps with confidence and the achievements to no end.

It was Crystal’s birthday and when she blew out the candles at work she made a wish. That she once again had the courage to submit her designs and become a shoe designer. Little did she know, when the smoke that clears turns into invisible sparkles it carries the wish to The Land Of Wishes and Dreams, home to all sorts of magical creatures including the elves. Mimi Cherry Merry had never had an assignment all on her own before and even better yet today is her birthday too. She was ecstatic to get out there and fulfill her elf duties even though the elders didn’t feel the young elf was up to the huge task of leading a team of other Merry Shoemaker elves. But not wanting to crush her dreams they assigned Leo Beans Merry to her team. Her big brother whom she adored and they knew she would seek his counsel or heed his warnings if need be.

The little elf never intended to crush anyone’s spirit with the knowledge of outside help. She just couldn’t help that she was so darn friendly and literally couldn’t resist the urge to make a friend.

But this time, she was determined to just do her job with her kindred spirit. The inspiration handbook says: ‘to get the human ready to reach full potential you have to follow a strict regimen. Drop the daily hints; this is a reminder of her passion and till they would finally get inspired to try, like most humans do. When humans fall asleep, the elves can go to work.’

Well Mimi did just that. She dropped Crystal’s college book out the closet, or dialed an old design friend “by accident” just so they could call back and force Crystal to explain why she’s not living out her dreams. Especially graduating top of the class. And like all times Crystal decided enough is enough and she needed to design, make the shoe and pitch her own idea to her bosses. No more marketing other dreams. It was time to market her own.

Crystal got home one Friday afternoon. It was around noon because her boss had given her the rest of the day off. They were finally giving her shot, by calling an emergency Saturday meeting the next day. The company needed a fresh new look for a partnership with a star that gave old Hollywood named Dawn Emile. She wanted a pixie toe heel that would pair nicely with a lace stocking. Crystal worked all afternoon on the presentation but couldn’t stay away to make the shoe or her signature. Mimi Cherry Merry, Leo Beans Merry and the Merry Crew worked hard all night to tidy up the presentations and make the shoes. Just a tiny bit of the dust was used so she wouldn’t remember the moments leading up to her falling asleep. That way she wouldn’t have no problem believing that she did in fact make the shoe.

Crystal jumped started in the morning and put on her brand-new shoes. Two at that. One to wear and one to show off. She couldn’t believe she had pulled off such an amazing feat in just an afternoon! She put on a classic 1950s dress and an up do and strolled to work. To her absolute surprise Dawn Emile was there! The glamourous star was over the moon with the presentation and the shoes alike! She wanted to try on a pair and somehow the extra pair in Crystal’s bag was a perfect match. The deal was struck that very moment and production would begin the following month.

Crystal was a star in the shoemaking world and now little Mimi Cherry Merry was too.
