'The river ran backwards on the day the Queen vanished.'

The story starts here:

The Quest For The Blessed Scimitar

So, it was decided. The town needed the Scimitar and a Champion to defeat Kongaray, or at least subdue it.

They had scoured the ancient texts and gleaned that the original came from the Valley of Smoke by The Dead Sea. It had been given magical properties because it was dipped in the Dead Sea that had once been home to a monster that was a brother to Kongaray, but this one had been defeated and dissolved in the Dead Sea filling it with blood and salt which is still there today.

The Valley of Smoke is the home of the smiths and priests and there they hoped to create and bless a new Scimitar to dip in the Dead Sea and use against Kongaray.

Two of the group set out, with gold, jewels and books that they hoped could be exchanged for the Scimitar. It was going to be a long journey.

In The Valley Of The Smoke

They arrived in the Valley of the Smoke and took lodgings at the first Inn they could find. They told their story and enquired about a smith and holy man who could make and bless the Scimitar they needed to subdue Kongaray. The Innkeeper gave them the names of a smith and a holy man, and they took to their bed, until the following morning.

The following day they spoke with the holy man and blacksmith who said they could provide and bless the weapon, but they were told that with two Scimitars they could kill Kongaray, with a blow to the heart and one through the eye, because once the blade entered Kongaray's body it would dissolve and spread poison through its heart and brain. If only one entered the body Kongaray would merely be put to sleep.

Once the blades were forged and dipped in the Dead Sea and blessed the had to be bloodied in combat.

They were not the Champions, but they would have to use the blades in combat, by killing two Grey Wolves that were the scourge of the shepherds in the Valley of the Smoke. The smith and the holy man trained them in using their blades and said they simply had to slay wolves as they were attacking sheep, and that happened every night.

Night came at the two were taken to a field where five wolves were tearing sheep apart. They simply walked up and plunged their Scimitars into two of the wolves, killing them immediately.

The other wolves howled and glared at the pair, bared their teeth, but then left for the forest.

Now that they had bloodied the Scimitars they wondered if they would be expected to kill Kongaray on their return home.

They thanked the holy man and the blacksmith and wrapped the precious blessed Scimatars carefully for the journey home. They knew that they had to get them home safely otherwise their town and any ships would be prey for Kongaray.

They used the same routes home over sea and land with trusted carriers, and the journey was quiet and uneventful, but they were nervous about their precious cargo. When they returned decisions would have to be drawn to decide who the Champions would be to kill Kongaray.

When they left, the plan was for one Champion to subdue Kongaray, now it was two Champions and a final kill. Would it be them or someone else?

They had blooded the Scimitars, and so maybe they were tied to the blessed blades.

The decision would be made when they returned.
