The Price of Betrayal

When generosity turns to disappointment

By Rohitha LankaPublished 10 months ago 2 min read

Have you ever seen people being the absolute worst? We tend to project their bad attitudes onto each of them, right? Read this carefully and reflect.

The man you call greedy once loaned money to friends and never got it back. When I asked him for the money back that he borrowed from me, he told me, “I don’t have the cash now, but I will get it to you when I can.” He didn’t consider it and didn’t return the money when I later asked. Perhaps you, stuck in disappointment, are the vulnerable one here?

If someone went out to eat with these people, then the person who counts their expenses as calculated and only pays their share is likely to have noticed that they are usually the cash cows of their friends and they are often expected to pay the bills when they meet. Are they a shark, or is it unfair to say? Can you blame them for feeling despondent when they hear such names and terms being thrown at them?

Imagine the artist who devotes themselves to the work and never puts a mark on the page without payment. Aren't they all feeling betrayed at this moment when they know some others are making money on the back of their work?

When I buy a car, I don’t negotiate a few cents here or there; I either buy or I don’t. Not so long ago someone tried to sell me his car and said — "My father broke his arm and this car is useful for his treatment. But instead, I bought the car for less than its value, and later sold it for much more, leaving me completely jaded about society.

Isn’t that the disappointment made in a scenario with a teacher who will only offer lessons once paid for, and then works with a struggling student free of charge, only for that student to proclaim that any success gained is theirs and theirs alone?

Imagine someone who works nonstop day and night, who used to enjoy life but now has no friends who are taking trips without them. When those who are supposed to love them have to fight to stay afloat and can hardly be bothered, which all leads to a damaging disillusionment that often prioritizes money over company.

I say this in all seriousness: there is a value in human love. Please do not exploit it. The villains of today were once heroes; inhumanity wears a human face. So, don’t abuse others;stunning souls could become rubbish if suffered.
