The table was set for a glorious afternoon of our family coming together and celebrating Thanksgiving. I spent hours creating a delicious autumn menu of roasted turkey, creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, and scrumptious pies. I even checked the weather to see if I could host our dinner outside by the lake. The extended family would be here, a first for us in years. Everything was going to be perfect.

Until…

When my husband and I watched the National Dog show while having a lite lunch during one of our breaks from Thanksgiving preparing, the aroma of turkey and spices enveloped us in a sweet and savory embrace. The phone rang, my husband picked up the phone. His once cheerful face drained of color, as I watched my warm body turned to ice.

It happened again. God, NO! When will he learn!

We quickly turned off the oven, and had to rush to the ER, leaving the perfect Thanksgiving day behind.

what a story-- enough to be wary of holiday reactions by others--trying to make life perfect has a strange effect on people
