The Pear Tree
It's just the beginning of a new start.
It was August 15th; beautiful and bright outside. The summer of 2030 is when I received my powers from mother earth. Yes, powers; I know it sounds crazy but it’s true. It all happened in Clarksburg, California under a beautiful pear tree. I was waiting for a friend who owned a farm around that way. I took one of the pears off of the tree; I was hungry and he was taking way too long. I bit into the sweet, juicy pear; as I am chewing I taste the ripeness even stronger. My eyes start watering; as I’m basically crying, my eyes get puffy and swollen. My lips got big and red as if my throat was swelling up. Yup, I’m allergic to pears; I guessed. William, my friend, finally comes outside. As he is running to me I fall on the ground and I start to have a seizure. As I’m foaming out the mouth, my friend William proceeds to put me on my side and he calls the ambulance while he is holding me.
I wake up in the hospital confused about what just happened to me. “How are you feeling?” William asks. “I’m feeling better than earlier.” I giggle. “I didn’t even know I was allergic to pears.” I say. “I figured”. He grabs my hand and kisses my forehead. “I’m glad you’re okay. You scared me.” I stare at him with this innocent look. “Thank you for being concerned about me.” I murmur. “I never had that type of treatment before.” He smirks at me and says “No thank you for being alive Isis.” That one sentence made my whole aura shine brighter than the sun. No, I am not trying to be poetic. I am literally telling you that my body was way too bright. While he was staring at me he was squinting. “Isis why is your body and face glowing so brightly? It’s beautiful, but it’s quite literally hurting my eyes.” I covered my whole body in the hospital sheet. “I don’t know what is happening to me.” I start to panic and freak out under the cover. “WHY IS MY BODY THIS BRIGHT?! CALL THE NURSES IN! CALL THE DOCTORS IN!” I screamed so loudly that William didn’t have to call anyone in because literally everyone was in my hospital room. William says “Take the sheet off, beautiful. It’s okay.” I take the sheet off. As I’m staring at over 15 doctors and nurses squinting their eyes at me, I start to hover in the air. Everyone was in complete awe and shock while I was completely scared out of my mind. “YOU GUYS WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME?!” I say terrifyingly. “A Goddess.” William states in worship. “A Goddess?” I ask myself. I fly out the window and I go home. I knock on my apartment door waiting for one of my sisters to open the door. “Heyyy.” Lamia says as she opens the door. I ran in the house and headed upstairs in panic. Lamia follows behind me in concern. “What’s wrong Isis?” I look at her confused. “You don’t see anything different about me?” “Nope.” She replies. “I don’t look brighter to you?” “No.” She says. “Something weird is going on. I was just in the hospital because I had an allergic reaction to a pear and..”
“I didn’t know you were allergic to pears.” Lamia says in confusion as she interrupts me. “I know. That’s what I mean. Today has been crazy. I think the pear gave me powers or something.” I cried. “Powers?! I’m sorry Isis, but are you on drugs?” Lamia taunted.
Since Lamia didn’t believe me I had to show her something I could do. The only problem was I’m not sure what I could do other than fly. “Come outside with me; let me show you something.” I insisted. Lamia agreed and she followed me outside. I started to hover in the air just enough so she would believe me. Her eyes widen; she proceeds to say “Where did you get this magic pear from?” I look at her and I start to laugh. “Why? I thought I was on drugs.” I giggle. “No, seriously though, how did this happen? Was it really because of the pear?” I shrugged. “I honestly don’t know. I just know that one minute I was in a farm eating a pear from a pear tree and then I ended up in the hospital with magical powers.” Lamia looks at me with amazement all over her face. “I have to eat that pear.” Lamia preached. “Are you sure? Because I literally almost died eating that pear. My friend William literally had to hold me sideways so I wouldn’t choke on my own foam.” I declare. “I don’t care. You didn’t get killed by it. I’m pretty sure I’ll be fine. Lamia insisted. “Okay I guess. We can go together; I was in Clarksburg. That’s where Williams farm is.” I sighed. Lamia and I travel to Clarksburg and we get to the farm. I knock on William’s door and no one answers. “Welp I guess no one’s here. Maybe another time.” I say in relief. “No, no, no. You can fly, remember.” Lamia chuckled. I sigh and I fly over William's house and over his farm to get to the pear tree. I grab a pear and fly right back to Lamia. I hand her the pear while I pray it doesn’t hurt her in any way. Lamia bites into the pear; nothing happens. We both stand there in confusion; wondering why it didn’t work for her. Lamia looks extremely disappointed. “Was it really the pear that gave you powers?” Lamia questioned. “I don’t know.” I sighed. “Okay, well let's just go home.” She murmured. We travel back to our apartment in silence. Once we head back we both K.O.
“AHHHHHHH!!”
I wake up to someone screaming. I rub my eyes and get up as fast as I can. It’s Lamia and her bedroom is on fire. “WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING LAMIA?!” I screamed. “I DON”T FUCKING KNOW! I JUST WOKE UP AND EVERYTHING WAS JUST BURNING!” I fly over to Lamia and grab her. I flew out the window and I put her down on the outside ground. I call 911 and I go back in to wake up my sister Sheva, so we all can get out of the apartment. “SHEVA WAKE UP THE APARTMENT IS ON FIRE!” I yell. As me and Sheva are heading out the door she asks “How the fuck did the house get on fire in the first place?” I look at her and shrug. “I have no idea, but I do have something to show you.” I hover and I say “I ate a pear and it made me magical. Lamia did the same and she could be the reason why the apartment is on fire.” Sheva looks at Lamia with an evil eye. “I don’t know what’s going on so don’t look at me.” Lamia scolded. “You guys, it's really no time to play the blame game. We need to figure out how to control the powers we have now and we also have to figure out a place to stay.” I nagged. “Can you see if your friend William would let us stay with him for a little while?” I called William and asked him if me and my sisters could stay with him until we found another place to stay. Of course he says yes because he’s in love with me.
We travel to Williams farm once again and we talk to him about what’s been going on. I told him Lamia now has powers herself, but she can’t control them. I knew William knew something about this magic because when he saw me fly he wasn’t in shock. I kept waiting for him to tell me what he knew, but I guess he was just waiting for me to ask. “William, do you have any clue what is going on here?” He looks at me with a devilish, but cute stare. “I know a lot, but I am not going to tell you everything. Just know and understand that the universe, God, whatever you want to call this spirit chose you and your sister.” I look at him with extreme confusion. “What do you mean?”
“You’ll see,” He says.
