She stepped back and hid herself behind the trees. She watched in awe and her eyes followed herself, her other universe self, in a forest with the man the other universe self called the the love of her life.
She had watched as she realized she had never seen his face. Not in this universe, not in the past universe, not in any. Who is this man? She thought to herself. I must find out. Perhaps, he is the answer I’ve been searching for.
She swiftly moved to the other side of the oak trying to just get a peak at him. She noticed some similarities. His chestnut brown hair, the way he held his shoulders. She got a tinge in her heart, almost like her heart recognized who he was before her mind did. She had to figure out who he was. She stood, hidden behind the massive oak for what felt like hours. Just watching the two people in front of her like there was no one else in the entire world but the two of them. She noticed the way this Rosalyns’ eyes twinkled as she danced. She saw the smiles on their faces near falter.
“So, that’s what being in love is like?” She expressed out loud. A little too loud, because as soon as those words escaped past her lips the two people in front of her stopped dancing. They faced each other and then their heads snapped towards the oak tree.
She hid behind the tree and as her back slid down the bark leaving little angry kisses behind, she closed her eyes. Please, please don’t come over here she prayed. She heard the foot steps get closer to her. She felt her hands start to tremble, as she knew this was it, she would be seen and her adventure would be over.
Suddenly, the world was silent again. She strained her ears looking for any signs that they were onto her. Any sign that she had been caught. After, what felt like an eternity she heard a soft voice echo through the forest. Don’t worry my child, your adventure isn’t over you have only just begun. She panicked, surely they heard the voice and will see her. Her heart pounded in her ears and she sat and listened.
“I don’t see anyone here.” A man spoke. She knew that voice, but from where?
“I don’t either, they must’ve left.” A girl replied.
“You are probably right. Let’s get out of here.” Said the same voice that made her heart flutter.
She waited a little longer as she listened to their footsteps grow quieter and quieter. When she decided that the coast was clear she slowly stood up. She brushed the leaves from her clothes and began walking out into the clearing. As she was walking a gentle breeze picked up, flowing her hair around her. She could smell the mixed scents of wet dirt, flowers, and leaves. She took a deep breath through her nose and held it in. She wanted the scent to last forever, to make it’s mark in her brain. So, when she looked back at this time that would be the first thing she remembered. She exhaled and instantly started to feel relaxed. This world isn’t so bad. I could live here forever. She thought to herself.
Rosalyn started to walk again. She didn’t know where the two people went. She didn’t care in that moment. She just walked with no destination in mind, allowing her feet and heart to guide her. Awhile later she found herself at the forest edge looking at a dirt road.
