Marcy's Vision
"Ring, Ring", rang the school bell. Some kids sighed, they knew class was about to start and today was testing day. The TACT test was to see if you were ready for the next grade. It was separated into three sections, Math, English, and a writing prompt. Hinesburg Elementary had grades first through sixth grade, and Marcy was in fifth grade moving on to sixth grade after the summer was over. She was talented in Math, knew her fractions and multiplication and division problems well, but she lacked focus in writing. It was something she never found joy in so most of her writing prompts were just a few quick paragraphs that seemed to sometimes go together. A tutor had been helping her to learn her verbs and adjectives, but if she could write the story in a mathematical code that would have been easier and more exciting for her.

Runes
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. They had flown in from the South in search of something. We watched from above a hill as they flew over a small patch of forest to the West of us. The dragons were frightening, but majestic with mountainous wings that carried their colossal bodies across the air weightlessly. A coal gray dragon with specs of green sent out a small flame through their nostrils as if in annoyance. It signaled to the others with a grunt from its throat to move on down the Valley.

Losing Time
Anxiety and fear swarms over my body like a plague. I can't show it. I have to stay strong in front of the ones I have come back to save. But sadly I was slowly losing hope I could save them. Having hope in a better tomorrow is what carried us forward as a civilization. Hoping that the struggles and hardships we faced in surviving after our world was gone, would one day be enough and we could all finally rest. Yet, here we are once again fighting to survive.
