Once upon a time, there was an old fox with nine tails, who felt that his wife was unfaithful to him and wanted to try her. He stretched out under the bench and moved his limbs down as if he were dead. The fox's wife went to his room and closed the door; her maid, Miss Cat, sat by the stove to cook. After the news of the old fox's death spread, the suitors came. The maid heard someone knocking at the door in front of the house. She went to open the door, and there stood a young fox saying, "Miss Cat, what are you doing? Are you sleeping, or are you awake?" The cat replied, "I am not sleeping, I am awake. Do you want to know what I'm doing? I am simmering beer and adding cream to it, sir, will you be my guest?" The fox said, "Thank you, miss, what is old Mrs. Fox doing?" The maid replied, "She is sitting in her room, telling her sorrow, and her eyes are red with weeping, for the old fox is dead." "Tell her, miss, that a young fox has come and wants to ask her to marry him." "Young sir, yes." The cat duked away, and the door grunted. "Mrs. Fox, are you in there?" "Ah, yes... My little cat, I'm here." "There's a suitor outside." "My son, what does he look like?" "Is he under is also has nine big beautiful tails, like an old fox?" The cat replied, "Ah, no, he has only one tail." "I don't want him." The cat lady went down and sent the suitor away. Soon there was another knock at the door, and another fox was at the door, asking for the wife of the old fox; he had two tails, but he suffered the same as the first fox. Then came some other foxes, each with one more tail than the last, but they were all rejected. Finally came a fox with nine tails like the old fox. When the widow heard this, she rejoiced greatly and said to the cat, "Open all the doors, and carry the old fox out and throw it away." But when the marriage ceremony was about to take place, the old fox under the bench sprang up and beat the group of rascals with a stick, and drove his wife and all the people out. The Second Fairy Tale When the old fox died, a wolf came knocking at the door to propose marriage. The cat, the maid of Mrs. Fox, opened the door. The wolf greeted the cat and said: "Good day, Mrs. Cat, the sweeper, why are you sitting alone? What good are you doing here?" The cat replied, "I am breaking bread and putting it into the milk guard, would you like to be my guest?" The wolf replied, "Thank you, Mrs. Cat, is the fox's wife not at home?" The cat said, "She is sitting in her room upstairs, crying her misery and her great distress, for the old fox is dead." The wolf replied, "If she will marry a man again, then you will tell her to come downstairs." The cat ran up the stairs, turning from side to side until she came to the front of the long hall, where she knocked on the door with her five fingers with the gold ring. "Mrs. Fox, are you in there? If you are willing to marry another man, you will come downstairs." Mrs. Fox asked, "Does that gentleman wear small red pants and have a sharp mouth?" The cat replied, "No." "He is not able to serve me." The wolf was sent away, and there came a dog, a deer, a rabbit, a bear, a lion, and all the beasts of the forest one by one. But none of them had some advantage over the old fox, so they were sent away by the description each time. Finally came a young fox. Mrs. Fox said, "Does that gentleman wear small red pants and have a sharp mouth?" The cat said, "Yes, he has both." Mrs. Fox said, "You tell him to come upstairs." She then told the maid to prepare for the wedding.
