A love story that begins in the rain, with a letter that was never meant to be found...

---

Chapter 1: The Storm That Changed Everything

The rain fell hard, turning the streets into rivers. Daniel Carter ran through it, his leather jacket soaked, his dark hair dripping. He was late—again—and his editor would kill him if he missed another deadline.

Then he saw her.

A woman stood in the middle of the sidewalk, not moving. The rain poured over her, but she didn’t seem to care. Her white dress clung to her skin, her chestnut hair stuck to her face. In her hands was a letter, the ink running in the rain.

Something about her made Daniel stop.

"Hey!" he called. "Are you okay?"

She turned. Her eyes were golden, like honey, but filled with so much pain it hurt to look at them.

And then she fainted.

Daniel caught her just before she hit the ground.

Chapter 2: The Letter That Broke Her Heart

He carried her into the nearest café. The owner, an old woman with kind eyes, brought towels and hot tea. The woman—*Evelyn*—woke up slowly, her fingers still clutching the wet letter.

"Thank you," she whispered.

Daniel sat beside her. "What’s in the letter?"

Evelyn’s hands shook. "The last words from the man I loved."

Her fiancé, Michael, had died in a car crash a year ago. She had just found this letter, hidden in a book he gave her. The words were smudged from rain, but she knew them by heart:

*"If you’re reading this, I’m gone. But please, Evie, don’t stop living. Find love again."*

Daniel’s chest tightened. He wrote love stories for a living, but he didn’t believe in them anymore. Not until now.

---

Chapter 3: The Unexpected Friendship

Daniel couldn’t stop thinking about her. He went back to the café the next day, hoping she’d be there.

She was.

Evelyn sat by the window, staring at the rain. When she saw him, she smiled—just a little.

"You came back," she said.

He sat across from her. "I wanted to make sure you were okay."

They talked for hours. About Michael. About loss. About how life sometimes feels like a storm you can’t escape.

Daniel told her he was a writer. "I used to believe in love," he admitted. "But not anymore."

Evelyn looked at him. "Maybe you just haven’t met the right person yet."

---

Chapter 4: The Night That Changed Everything

Weeks passed. Daniel and Evelyn spent more time together. They walked in the park, drank coffee, laughed about silly things.

But then, one night, everything changed.

They were at Daniel’s apartment, listening to old records. Evelyn picked up a book from his shelf—*the same book* where she had found Michael’s letter.

Her hands trembled.

Daniel noticed. "Evelyn?"

She looked up, tears in her eyes. "I think… I’m falling for you."

The air between them grew heavy. Daniel’s heart raced. He stepped closer.

"I think I’m falling for you too," he whispered.

And then he kissed her.

---

Chapter 5: The Fear of Moving On

But love isn’t simple.

Evelyn woke up crying one night, dreaming of Michael. Guilt ate at her. *Was she betraying him?*

Daniel held her, but he wondered—*was he just a replacement?*

They fought. They cried. They almost walked away.

Then, one evening, Evelyn handed Daniel a new letter.

*"Daniel,"* it said. *"I don’t know if this is right. But I want to try. With you."*

He kissed her again, this time with no fear.

---

Epilogue: A New Beginning

A year later, Daniel published a new book—*The Last Letter*.

On the first page, it read:

*"For Evelyn. The love I never saw coming."*

At their wedding, under a sky full of stars, Evelyn whispered, "You were my second chance."

Daniel smiled. "And you were mine."
