There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. The Valley is a collection of woods that used to be home to the lost spirits and the people who were below poor. The truth of the small statement burns my heart deeply, even greater than the idea that I'm orphaned. Dragons were never meant to exist amongst humans, this placement I believe must've been an accident in the celestial realm. If only I could discover at least my parents, then I would feel somewhat welcome in this accursed realm.
Today is my most busiest day and the sky has decided that this day is a raining one. Still, I’m gonna continue to run this particular errand, and of course in disguise. I must hide my large furry body from the humans that surround me. Covering my body in a custom magic cloak I appear human to whoever lays eyes on me.
Running into town I will meet up with a witch that claims to remember a dragon that I believe is my mother. The witch thinks I only ask questions about the missing dragons to find my human parents. When I met this witch I explained to her, "when I was young, I lost both of my parents in the most terrifying of fires. I got hope from a traveler with information describing the last two dragons seen in the sky. I was raised in the Valley and perhaps those dragons know where my parents are. Because I think that they’re both still alive." Of course, if I find the dragon I will have found my mother, so there is no lie presented.
Covering myself in a magic cloak I tuck my tail between my legs, up and around my waist. After all dragons aren’t allowed to peacefully exist anymore. So I can’t have people questioning my existence. Step-by-step I make it on my way to the witches shop. As I follow the path she laid out for me, my thoughts took over my mind, I begin to question the person that raised me.
I was raised in the valley by a hobbit of sorts. He taught me how to find water, forge for food, and disguise myself with a magical cloak. This person has disappeared long ago before I could even say my first words.
Arriving at my new destiny I began to feel the fear grow within my gut. What am I to do if this witch betrays me.
Entering into the shop I was greeted with a speech that I never earned. “why do you hide yourself underneath a magical cloak for none to see. Do you know how powerful you are my darling? Whether you believe I know or not, I am aware that you are a magical dragon. Do you believe yourself to be the last one of your kind? Of course not! Because you strive to rediscover your parents with hope that they are still alive.“
Suddenly I felt the magic dissipate from my cloak and empty its enchantment. I heard the door lock from the outside which is somewhere I couldn’t reach. I could see the dim lights completely disappear into pitch black darkness. I felt the fear rising within me of the chance that I may soon draw my last breath. Cooking up the fire that I was born with yet never had a reason to use. I could see its glow from my chest light up the room and felt it warm my body. The Witch was nowhere to be seen from any perspective, I couldn't even smell her.
How am I to escape without my cloak to keep me hidden. I cannot return to the Valley for that is my safe space. I have no way to run and no where to hide if I reveal myself to the people outside this shop. I felt a blade pierce right below my ribs on my backside. That’s when I heard an aggressive man angrily whispered to me with a stench on his breath.
“ Do you know why there aren’t any dragons in the valley? Because of men like me who killed them all for their bodies many luxurious properties. I’m gonna be so rich off of your body that I could give away half and still be rich.” he chuckled just a bit.
The shock from being stabbed, versus never being harmed before in my life, I assumed I was to die. The man took the blade and twisted it into a complete circle. The pain was so agonizing I let out a cry for help for any dragon to save me. Then I fainted.
Waking up I feel the rhythm of my body being dragged and stopping in between my kidnappers steps. I looked above me as the dirt and grass filled my fur and noticed there was no trail of blood being left behind. I reach for my wound and felt the pain all over again. Wincing I whine, the person dragging me dropped my tail and took a few steps towards me. Squatting down to get close they talked to me in a most calming tone.
“ Listen here woman. I will take you to your parents in exchange for your help.”
Looking at the human man I realize that he was no enemy but perhaps his eyes did deceive him. However, what kind of favor could a human want from a dragon in exchange for saving their life?
“ I need you to fly me to Jink island, and send my half blood daughters on to their next eternity.”
I have may questions but the one that I ask is quite interesting. “ how old are you, there’s no way you have a daughters.” This human man's appearance is above astonishing. He had long brown hair pulled up into a bun with beautiful light brown eyes and tan skin. He looked to be about my age translated in human form, so there’s no way he has daughters. At least not multiple. I was born the year of the war and I'm only seventeen.
“ You must help me, and I will reveal your parents location.”
Lying on the ground I close my eyes as if to go to sleep and say, “ to believe you know where my parents are yet you don't even know who I am is foolish. How do you expect me to send a ghost somewhere that I can’t even fathom it nor the afterlife.”
His next response was quite alarming, because he presented an agrivated tone with anger. ” do you not know what kind of dragon you are.”
“ oh so you can see, that I am not a woman.”
I can only assume that my response angered him even more than what my previous one did. Still, this time, he sat upon the ground and buried his face within his hands. He began to look uo to the sky as he dragged his hands done his face while releasing a very large sigh. “ Listen dragon, agree to take me to the mountain on Jink island and I will draw you a map of where your family is located.”
Filled with many questions I decide to ask none. He has many pieces of weaponries attached to his person . He also had many magical things of which I have no idea to what they are used for. He seems like he desperately wants to get to the island. However this place that he desires is cursed far more than the men that kill dragons for riches.
He continues to speak to me in a calm manner and says “The bodies of my two daughters and wife were killed in the start of the war. I buried their bodies in the mountaintop, somewhere no one could find them. My daughters are half dragon because of their mother. I can’t have their bodies being consumed by people. I just need help to bury them properly.”
“ and how am I to help you with that besides getting you to the Mountain.”
“ The will of the valley once said ‘when the black dragon is born they shall bear fur as a symbol of their scythe. In which the power will be to sever a dragon's spiritual connection to this realm and send them to the next.’ I can only assume that you are the key to my daughters final resting.”
“ And if I cannot help you with that goal?”
“ I will make good on my word once I arrive atop of the mountain. No matter the outcome of my daughter’s.”
This man had saved me from many criminals and death. I shall grant him one wish for my reward is worth more than any sacrifice.
“ when do we head for the curse Island, stranger?”
“ Once you’re able to fly again we will began our journey. Also, please call me Adonis.”
“ My name is Danny, Also, don't get mad, around 122 seconds is my longest flight time.”
“WHAT?”
