The "Feel Good" Heist
When You Can't Make Your Own Serotonin, Steal It!
James reached into his backpack and pulled out an apple. He looked it over thoughtfully before taking a large, juicy bite, thinking over the conversation he'd heard at a cafe that afternoon.
"One bite of this, and the person should never run out of serotonin again! This is gonna change so much!" James heard the professor seated at the table behind him say excitedly. He glanced over his shoulder as the other occupants of the table chimed in.
"The studies are quite favorable. You've done great work!" supported the second person seated at their table.
"It should be a real game changer!" agreed the third.
Surprisingly, the professor held what looked like an everyday apple.
'Serotonin?' thought James; he'd long suffered depression and anxiety, and the apple - or what was in it - offered a chance at... better. The long-awaited better he'd sought so long.
As it happened, he too had a similar apple - minus the serotonin - in his bag...
As James finished the apple, he felt a twinge of guilt. So many others could have benefited from the professors' studies.
When the apple absorbed, though...
James couldn't believe how good he finally felt; how much better.
About the Creator
Megan Baker (Left Vocal in 2023)
A fun spin on her last name, Baker enjoyed creating "Baker's Dozen" lists for various topics! She also wrote candidly about her mental health & a LOT of fiction. Discontinued writing on Vocal in 2023 as Vocal is a fruitless venture.
