The Cabin
A short horror tale about a wife's attempts to maintain her wedded bliss

Jessica Walcott was living a life that she had dreamed of; she was married to Stephen Walcott and had been for a year. For Jessica, it was an amazing life with a man she had fancied for quite some time, but for Stephen, it was a second trip down the aisle--following the sudden disappearance of his first wife, Fiona, during a camping trip two years prior. Jessica served as a means of support for Stephen in the time that passed following Fiona's disappearance, but as time went by, hope for Fiona's discovery decreased, but the sudden feelings between Stephen and Jessica suddenly increased.
"I am so lucky to be married to you."
Those words were uttered by Jessica every day throughout her marriage to Stephen, who reciprocated his feelings. In spite of this, however, Stephen began to suspect something about Jessica; mainly the fact that she habitually returned home late on select evenings. Jessica claimed that she was working late, but the more she made the claim, the more skeptical Stephen became. This had been going on throughout their entire marriage, and it kept Stephen's mind working, as he was attempting to figure out what was his wife's secret was.
"Is she having an affair?" Stephen often thought. "Does she have a secret family? I just want answers."
On the following evening, Jessica was on the road in the late hours, but unbeknownst to her, Stephen was close behind her, as he was tracking his wife in an attempt to get to the bottom of what her secret was. To his surprise, Jessica was driving to a wooded area--which Stephen recognized as the same area that Fiona disappeared from.
"What's she doing here?" asked Stephen, who later watched as Jessica exited her car and walked down the woods. As Jessica continued walking, various sounds echoed through the night, including a loud screech that appeared to startle Jessica. She turned around and spotted a barn owl perched on a branch, which is what made the screeching sound, and finally reached a cabin--before passing a triad of mauled corpses.
Jessica's reaction to the bodies wasn't that of horror; rather, she gave a bit of a sinister smile before entering the cabin, and uttering the following statement:
"Hello, Fiona."
Jessica gave a greeting to Fiona Walcott, Stephen's first wife, who was tied to a chair with tape covering her mouth. "You've been making a lot of noise, Fiona," Jessica said before ripping the tape from Fiona's mouth, causing Fiona to scream in pain.
"You're insane!" exclaimed Fiona.
"Really?" asked Jessica. "Am I insane for wanting something for myself? Wanting someone to love?"
"He's my husband!" shouted Fiona. "And do you think he'll really stay with you if he finds out what you did? Or how about who, or what, you are?"
Jessica gave an evil chuckle in response to Fiona's rant. "That won't be a problem," she said, "because I'm about to do what I should have done two years ago." It was at that moment that Jessica's eyes started showing an animalistic yellow shade, and afterwards, Jessica tore out of her clothes and sprouted brown fur all over her body, along with sharp claws and jagged fangs, and afterwards, the evil she-wolf let out a loud howl--only to be interrupted by someone calling her name.
"Jessica?!"
Jessica, still in her werewolf form, turned around to see Stephen in front of her, but his surprise would be increased upon seeing his first wife.
"Oh my...Fiona?!" Stephen exclaimed before turning to his second wife. "Jessica, what the hell is going on?!"
"I did it for us, Stephen!" Jessica proclaimed. "I've been saddled with this curse since I turned 18! I deserve a good life! Then I saw you and...her. I just wanted what I felt should be mine! And I'll have it once she's gone!"
"Jessica," said Stephen. "Jessica, don't do this." Stephen's words fell on deaf ears, as Jessica was set on killing Fiona, who suddenly managed to get one of her legs free and kick Jessica away. Fiona later completely broke free and embraced Stephen for the first time in two years, only for Jessica to pounce on Stephen out of anger.
"How could you?!" Jessica asked before she set her sights on killing Stephen, only for the brief confrontation to be interrupted by a loud bang, which was only heard by Stephen, as his eyes were closed. Stephen later saw that Fiona had shot Jessica with a single silver bullet, and as Jessica regained her human form after her death, the Walcotts breathed a sigh of relief, as their nightmare was over and they finally reunited.
"I missed you so much, Fiona," said Stephen.
"Really?" Fiona asked coyly. "Because it didn't take you long enough to move on."
"I never gave up hope, you have to know that," said Stephen.
"Of course, honey," said Fiona. "You were just manipulated by Jessica. I completely understand." Stephen was set on leaving as soon as possible, but to his surprise, Fiona walked towards a window and stared outside.
"Fiona?"
"Do you know what kept me going while I was held captive by your psycho other wife?" asked Fiona. "The hope that my husband would find me; the hope that my husband, the man I had been married to for 16 years, would know that I was alive somewhere. But when Jessica would come here and boast about her 'perfect life' with you, that changed. I changed." Fiona later removed her jacket, revealing that her right arm was bandaged. She later removed the bandage and unveiled claw marks.
"Those bodies out there?" Fiona cackled. "I imagined they were you as I tore them apart. Yes, I still hoped you would find me. But now, I have a much different reason." At that moment, the full moon appeared, and to Stephen's horror, Fiona suddenly transformed into a werewolf, completing her revelation that Jessica attacked and turned her. Afterwards, Fiona lunged at Stephen and mauled him to death, and gave a demonic howl afterwards.
