Jason was reeling from what he'd remembered. The girl had disappeared! He tried to think about how it happened but he couldn't see beyond it in his mind. It was frustrating.
He'd been there! They'd kissed and he had felt a strangeness deep within him, like something had been unlocked.
*
Ella was still unseen but watching. She had felt buoyed only minutes before as she thought a breakthrough had been made but it had been temporary. Her grip was slipping and she had no recourse of action.
She just had to wait.
*
The Master of the Games sat in the back of the Hummer as it hurtled through the streets. The drones continually reported the roads to take to keep moving on the display infront of him. These too, the drones, were limited by the Disruption that was currently in place controlling Ella, but it was enough to glean an easier passage.
He was tired. He was not a natural hunter. It was fear only that was driving him. He knew that He would kill without compunction and the thought of his mother...No, he would protect her at all costs. But part of him knew that she would not want him to perform this way; she would want him to fight. He was continually torn in his emotions between protecting her from evil harm by doing daily reprehensible tasks and thinking about how bitterly disappointed and betrayed she would feel, knowing that he was being cowed by a bully, albeit one who was a psychotic megalomaniac with no heart.
"Sir?"
He looked up to see his driver looking at him.
"Five minutes to destination."
The Master of the Games nodded and tried to focus on what was ahead.
"Shall I prep the Disruptors?"
The Master of the Games sighed and said a weary, "Yes".
He thought of his mother, the footage that He had had sent to his email just before departing. She looked well, content, unaware that evil eyes were watching her every move.
*
He watched The Master of the Games as he travelled. He liked to keep a tight leash on his people. A reminder of "Mummy" was just what was needed.
Just in case...

Hah… Mummy might be the chink in the armour! Can we peak at Mummy dear, maybe? Go, Master of Games!👍🏼
I've been offline for a few days so only just catching up. And now we have a mother... Seriously, I would keep the number of characters in check, this piece is getting more and more complicated and I'm starting to be concerned for the author's mind having to juggle all the data!
Come on! This is getting intense! Can’t wait to see where you take this.
I like the quick little perspective changes to orient us to all the characters current locations and motivations! Feels like the tension just had an uptick
Now the Master has a mother? Whatever it is, I hope he's not a Mommy’s Boy
I need Jason to figure out who Catwoman is. Ella's has to get through to him somehow.
Jason needs to unexpectedly run into Ella just as her pursuer does.
Is there someone who Jason can go to, to make sense of things? Like someone at the bar?
Many a good person will find themselves in a bad position as does the Master of the Games here. Sometimes we pursue a path that leads us away from what we intended at the start, and that seems to be the case for him. The big bad villain, the head honcho, I think we need to know more about him and what his plans are for these people, as well as how much the Master of the Games really understands. But maybe these are twists better left unrevealed for now? Or perhaps we could reveal some inkling of these truths by a further exploration of Ella--and Malcolm's--backstory? Well-wrought! Write on!
Back to Ella for the confrontation since she is currently limited to the role of an observer.
It is a very well written fiction.
