"The Midnight Echoes"
"The Midnight Echoes" Gazing into the seemingly endless shadows, Sophia stood at the edge of the woodland. The trees, whose branches twisted into hideous patterns, looked like giants in the eerie silver illumination of the full moon, which hung low in the sky. A gentle breeze swept through the woods, and the only sound to break the stillness was the rustle of leaves. That silence felt different tonight, though. Something ancient electrified it, made it feel alive.

The Man in the Shadows
The rustling behind them sent Jessica’s heart racing. Someone was there. Deputy Callahan’s posture shifted. He heard it too. He moved with quiet precision, his hand gripping the holstered gun at his hip as he turned toward the open barn door.

Whispers of the Ananouki
Setting: Georgia, 2027. A small, near-abandoned town after a catastrophic nuclear strike. Dima had never seen a morning like this before. The kind of morning where silence wasn’t comforting, but suffocating. It had been weeks since the strike. Weeks since he last saw anyone — or heard anything except for the rustle of the wind, which now carried an acrid, metallic scent. The fallout from the nuclear strike had ravaged his once-beautiful Georgian town, turning everything into a cold, gray wasteland. The skies were forever dimmed by the thick layers of radioactive ash.

The Genesis Clone. Runner-Up in 500 Word Shockwave Challenge.
Eva’s eyes widened before she ducked her head. “Stay still,” Mom criticized her, sounding more harsh than usual. Eva stopped herself from flinching because she understood. Something was wrong with Dad. They wouldn’t tell her what, but they tested her blood not long ago. The three of them were now waiting in the hospital for the results. What results they were hoping for, they didn’t tell her either. Eva would ask but her parents got annoyed when she asked questions. Maybe they wanted to see if she had what Dad had? No...that didn’t sound like them. It didn’t sound like any adult Eva had met in her life to be concerned about her, about any child clone. She doubted even Johnathan Apple, who created the Genesis Flower, would care about them.
