The Iron Bull
Earth Angel by The Penguins was playing on the radio. It was the perfect song for my picnic preparations. I was going to propose to her today and I needed everything to be perfect. I’d made her favorite sandwich, roast beef on pumpernickel with just a dollop of brown mustard and a bunch of havarti cheese. I had an assortment of crudité prepared, all of her favorite vegetables and fruits: cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, radish, strawberries, pomegranate.

A Tricky Trek
I stood in the center of the rows of cars that had long been abandoned. Doors hung open intermittently between the random SUV's and compacts that had their colors stolen from them by the assault of rain, sunlight, and fire. Dark charcoal patches bled from car hoods to the asphalt that showed the scorch marks of what was either fire bombs or engines that simply couldn't handle the journey to begin with.

Man Vs. the End of the World
Chapter 1 Leon Grates pulled himself through the narrow opening into the bottom of the crevice he’d lowered himself through hours before. He’d been happily exploring the cave alone, even though spelunking wisdom told said a person should never explore a cave without a buddy. The cave reminded Leon of the hours he’d spent below ground growing up in the hills of Tennessee. Neal, however, tended to be a bit claustrophobic and had asked to stay above ground. He assured Leon that he’d stay close by to monitor the radio in case Leon got into any trouble and to be there when the man needed to get out of the cave.

Captain Rydian of the Human Galactic Unit
I snuck silently through the halls. I was nervous, but brave as I kept my guard up. I didn't have any weapons aside from my personal laser, but that wasn't all that useful a tool. Cadets weren't allowed to carry lethal weapons, so the most my laser would do was give a good burn. I suppose it was better than nothing.
