The rain was cascading hard that night. A tall figure stood peering over a girl’s lifeless body, lying in a shallow dug grave. In their hand was what only it could assume to be the poor girl’s heart. As the figure looks closer at the heart, it appeared to be cold to the touch, almost frozen. In some areas of said heart, there were dark spots that looked as though it was slowly decaying within their palm.

Cas is often left to his thoughts when he is in the Impala with Dean. But Baby is not herself—itself—a "gag order," it's more so that Dean often is parsing through his feelings and Cas is happy to allow him that space. Eons of his existence gives him some of the patience Dean requires, to learn his worry. The bulk of it, the part that matters. But right now Cas’ anxiety and impatience are fuel. He's banking on the chunk he never has had the patience for: Dean’s untimely curiosity. Because he can't be happy right now. At least not until they know The Empty deal is still on or if it was nullified by Its recent attempt to take him back to The Shadows. Cas isn't sure if there are any texts or tablets on the subject.

The room is empty except for the two of them, but Cas is still vibrating like a rattling water heater in one of the motels Dean and Sam settled into after a bad hunt. Cas had always hated those places. He liked Bobby's so much better. Dean was somehow both easier and harder to understand back then. Cas doesn't know if that makes him angrier or more anxious because right now he feels frozen in space. Dean still has him in a vice grip and has his beautiful face impossibly close to his. It feels like he's trying to crush his thoughts into Cas' lips.

1. A slither of light shone through the window, leaving a trace of hope on the sofa; the curtains were not fully drawn shut. First battle. Eradicate the light but limp body? The second-best option and only option really is to create the darkness with the tools available. Simply closing the eyes is an amateur's game; whoever can suffice with just closing their eyes seeking complete darkness, is not a true warrior. Not a sufferer. Pitch black is the goal.

Firm ridges protruded from their foreheads, and moved up over their heads, and down their backs.

"Because it is." This is gonna be it. The final time Cas would look into all that love. The forever split streams of love that spilled out of Dean's eyes damn near every minute of every day in big and little ways. He could see it at the levee of the bottom of Dean's eyes right now.
