The Call of the Flame
“There weren’t always dragons in the valley…” my grandma was telling me. We were out in the garden planting vegetables to prepare for this fall’s harvest. The sun was shining bright in the sky with the wind carrying the warmth of spring through our village. The smells of fresh breeze and churned soil filled my nose and my lungs breathing with such clarity. I felt so connected to the earth beneath my feet.

The Realm of Lavaria
Vrison. "There weren't always dragons in the valley." Minos the Swift, the fastest dragon in all the realms, and Tezzedot the Nocturnal, the only dragon who can travel as a shadow, both eagerly watched their master as he stared through the newly made portal to the Realm of Lavaria. His red scales dimly lit by the stirring of morning trickling through the portal door. Running his jet-black talons down his greying neck frill, he continued with his story. "There was a time when dragons were looked down on. The elves and the sorcerers kept us as pets. They chained us up in caves, clipped our wings and kept us on the brink of starvation. That is until we rose and claimed back each realm. Now look at them. Dragons, elves, and wizards living together in perfect harmony, training together, eating together. It makes me sick. Dragons are the superior species! We should be ruling the kingdoms! Not living amongst these creatures who treat us in such a vile manner!" Master began shaking his head, still looking out of the portal door. Watching as the village of Korr start to arise from their slumber.

The Trees Swallow People: Part 8
We're supposedly social animals, cooperative, empathetic. I'm not the most exuberant person, but I like to think I'm agreeable and can hold a conversation. I like my own company, apart from Diva's, of course. But in Dundalk, before I moved up here, I would have met up with the lads, grabs a few pints, get chatting. The lads aren't in the country any more. I'm kind of glad they're not.

Requiem
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. Not long ago, it was known as Riquiel – the Land of the Five Free Peoples. It used to echo vibrant chatter and laughter, the noises of life blending with the roar of the river that had carved the Valley. The memory of that peaceful time was lost to many, but not here. Not in Bankstown.

Into the Fire
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. There was a time when everything was normal. A time where magic and mythical creatures were just that, mythical. Although, it’s difficult to recall a time before all that was known was despair and devastation. There used to be towns in the valley, filled with people and resources. Now it’s just ash and destruction, home to the most fierce and monstrous creatures, outside the wildest imagination. The legends couldn’t have prepared us for what was to come when the winged beasts invaded. So many people were lost in those first days. How could we be prepared for something we didn’t know was coming? What defense did humans have against these enormous, fire wielding opponents?

Professionals and Providence
There weren't always dragons in the valley. Of course, there weren't always humans in the valley either. Long ago, if you go back far enough, there was nothing in the valley. Plants, animals, even the sun crept into the valley over millennia. If you were particularly philosophical, you might think that no one could truly claim the valley as their home; everyone's just passing through. The humans didn't see it that way, though. They were there before the dragons, so the dragons needed to go. The conceit of the stance didn't bother Vaal much. After all, it was humans that paid him, not the trees, and certainly not the dragons. The old man told him, back when Vaal was still listening, that professionals left their hearts at home; and Vaal was a professional.
