She convinced her father to fund her journey as a merchant, and she set sail on a trading ship bound for the East Indies. The journey was long and treacherous, but Isabella proved herself to be a capable sailor, learning navigation and survival skills from the crew. As the ship approached the coast of India, they were attacked by pirates. Isabella fought valiantly alongside the crew, but they were outnumbered and outgunned.
