SPINS - A BRITE Alliance mystery
Chapter One Day 1 - in an Alien Murder Investigation “Tari, Tari, I need you!” yelled Dino, after I’d answered my com. Waking up to the sound of the excitable Rheinon ambassador wasn’t my favorite way to start a day but other options could have been worse.

The Merry Spinsters
It was one of those delightful muggy days when the sun and rain clouds met above like wandering tourists. A violent flash of rain quickly muddied the earth. Lydia left her garden in haste. She watched from under her wide straw hat as the last defiant rain drops spun the brilliant sunlight like tiny prisms. Then, all too soon, the sun vanquished the storm.

The Beautiful and The Damned
Outside of the carriage windows, wickedly twisted trees and swirling shadows marked our passage through the forest. I tried to catch a glimpse of the world around me, but I couldn’t see beyond the trees that barely made the road passable. Occasionally, a branch would catch the carriage and the sound like nails across stone reverberated through the surprisingly luxurious space.

Parasitic Friends Are The Only Ones Who Stick Around
Where did he go? I lost my friend in the mall, which is funny because nearly everything is closed, so there’s hardly anywhere for him to hide. He said he would meet me right here outside the old pet shop. So many great memories from here, but all that’s left is Dillard’s, Macy’s, and shells of stores I used to adore in middle school. Ya know… Hot Topic, Earthbound, Abercrombie, and Aeropostale. Happier times bygone, I really miss them now that I’m standing in the middle of it all. But look at me, reminiscing.

Whispers of the Flowers
My family never saw tragedy. We were, in the eyes of many, the luckiest people alive; and even to this day, I still have no idea how we have been so lucky. You may wonder what I mean by how lucky we are and let me tell you that our luck stretches to the point that none of my family has ever died or aged. Once we hit the age of twenty-one, our body just stops aging, and we get to live forever and ever. Many people see living for eternity as a curse, and I could see why someone would think that way. After all, when you live forever you watch the ones you loved the most die; however, I never have to say goodbye to my family, and so I see immortality as a blessing.

Privacy Breach
It was like any other typical, boring day in the life of Eric Mason. It was nearing the end of his shift as a barista for the local coffee shop here in Sandpoint, Idaho when something, or someone, caught his attention. The glimmer of hope and eagerness in this young woman’s eyes as she sat nervously at a table for two. Now Eric immediately assumed that she was meeting someone here, a possible interview of sorts, he pondered. He is not typically a people watcher, in public that is, but something about the almost innocent, childlike, aura that surrounded her made him feel a deep connection that he could not seem to shake. “Ouch, damnit” he said, as he quickly sat down a scolding hot cup of coffee, he accidentally overfilled. “Eric, pay attention, we don’t have time for this” his annoyed manager spoke as she shuffled rapidly behind the counter. Eric shook his head, gaining his wits about him, and continued about his duties.

I am excited to share this story with everyone. After checking out Vocal, and reading multiple stories on here, I found this site to be a flourishing place for creatives. I decided to join these creatives and hope to find it as inspirational as others have. I am thankful for sites like Vocal who give writers a place to gather and share.
