Mystery
A Town Of Millfield
It was a dark and stormy night, and the small town of Millfield was being battered by the elements. The streets were deserted, save for three unlikely companions: a scrappy little terrier named Max, a sleek and stealthy Siamese cat named Luna, and a wise and patient tortoise named Franklin.

The Aftermath
It felt like forever. One second she saw the air-ships flying and everything exploding and the next it was pitch black. Where had she gone? Why was it so cold? Where was everyone? Why was she all alone? It felt like she had been there for days, weeks, maybe years. But she was wrong, she had only been in the darkness for a few hours. When she finally awoke there was grey smoke everywhere, shrapnel, a few fires, and bodies. She looks down around her and see her own body, Albert’s body and a few others. She looks back up confused, “How is this possible?” She looks back down, “How is it possible that I’m standing as my body is lying on the ground?” She slowly starts to realize what’s happening, “Albert… Where’s Albert??” She starts looking around frantically, breathing hard and fast, almost hyperventilating. “Albert!? Albert Where are you??” Rena starts yelling for Albert. She starts walking slowly, looking for Albert.

The Prank. Top Story - January 2023.
"Reset your password” the computer screen flashed. I was about to begin class, and I ignored the prompt. I’m Jerry Lugar, a sixth grade science teacher at Pearl Middle School. This period I was teaching the ‘troubled’ students. I assumed they had done something to the computer to activate the prompt, so I’d deal with it after class. Every day they’d play another prank.

The Unprofessional
All stories really are about leaving town or arriving in one. She was trying to remember who said that, and it bothered her that it was a mystery; also, the train’s slight lurch pushed her back into her seat, and that had irritated her neck. In first class, she thought that she would truly be able to set her thoughts down, whether in a notebook she had just bought and really did not need, or in the space on the screen of her cell phone. She stared at both of them and tried to remember.

The Shadow Author. 3
You can find the prologue and ensuing chapters here! Chapter Three The shadow author strolls leisurely towards the ticket barrier, pausing briefly when he spots a pair of armed policemen standing at the junction of the ticket office and the station’s concourse. The split-second stoppage is enough time for him to be mutteringly admonished by a few commuters who flow around him as if he were a sunken log in a stream. He carries on, calmly, knowing that armed police are often at the station and are nothing to do with him. Equilibrium. Far from appearing intimidatory to the rushing masses about them, expressions of boredom are draped across their faces as they vacantly watch the commuters queuing for their tickets or for newspapers that come with a free, large bottle of mineral water with varying levels of patience and the resignation at their day in, day out routine.

The Shadow Author. 2
Please find the prologue and ensuing chapters here! Chapter Two THE SHADOW AUTHOR opens his front door and steps out onto the grime-strewn stone step that marked the border between his indoor sanctuary and the cracked pathway that led to the real world, the grotesquely fat, pitifully scrawny one beyond his mind. A shadow, cast from the house’s rotting storm porch, was waiting to obscure his image from those roaming the morning world. He closed his eyes, knowing that he had just a few seconds with which to compose himself before the world’s elements swarmed his body. Polluted his thoughts. He spent these seconds feeding off the buzz of anticipation that was pulsating throughout his body. Letting this fraught and dangerous energy empower his muscles, his bones.
