After Dr. Horace left to fix a cup of tea for his ward, Danny headed downstairs to the guest room to check up on Penelope. He thought about just letting himself in, but paused with his hand on the knob. On the off chance that she had awakened, he didn't wish to barge in unannounced. Very timidly, he tapped on the door, "Penelope? Are ye awake?" He put his ear to the heavy walnut panel, listening carefully for any sign of movement on the other side. When he heard nothing, he swallowed nervously and pushed the door open.

Once he'd done that, he quietly rose from his cot and slipped out of his tent. It was still dark out but he had been living here long enough that he knew his way around.

Frankie snapped out of her daze when she heard her Mom call her name from downstairs. Her surroundings came right back to her; she was propped up in her bed, holding open the 402-page novel she’d just picked up earlier that day, her fingers acting as a makeshift bookmark for page 402 and her bedside lamp providing all the light she could ever need to read and re-read those final lines. She skimmed them quickly once more, and got that same feeling she’d felt reading them for the first time. It felt like being punched in the gut, slapped across the face, and dunked underwater all at once.

CH1 Branches tore at my skin as I ran. I couldn’t get enough air in my lungs and my bare feet, wet with bloody scrapes, kept skidding across the leafy ground at every neck breaking turn we made. To stop and look back would be a death sentence. So, we didn’t. My older brother squeezed my numb fingers even tighter as he led the way. I felt a moment of assurity that we would make it, we’d made it so far already and we were so close to safety. I could almost see the lights from the wall in the distance above the trees. His hand was suddenly ripped from mine so violently I felt my body wrench in the opposite direction. I stared at my bloodless hand, still damp from his sweat, empty. I heard his screams and trembled as the air heated up around me. I knew I was about to die. My brain screamed as my throat was abruptly filled with fire.

Chloe’s POV After my shift ended I bought myself a coffee and then looked for where William was, I found him at the table In the far right corner of the shop he was staring out of the window and had his head resting gently on his fist. "Lost in thought?" I asked as I sat down at the table, I set my coffee down across from his and I tapped on the cup softly. "Quite." He replied before drifting his eyes toward me and giving me a smile. "I came to discuss something rather...Important." he stated, I pressed my lips together and nodded slowly "Mmm?" His smile dropped and he sighed and looked away "I will be leaving again soon, in two days to be exact." William paused then looked back at me. "I would like to see you again." He stated. "Oh, I...I don't know what to say." I replied, I couldn't lie, my heart dropped the moment he said he had to leave. "Is it because of work that you are leaving?" I asked, I felt that I had to know. "Yeah, yeah, it's for work." He replied as he turned back to look out of the window, "But still, I would like to see you again." I thought for a moment then I slowly nodded "I would like to see you again as well, though I am not sure when exactly we could do that." I replied giving him a half smile. William looked back at me and smiled.
