Fun With Phoebe
My phone rang just as I pushed my way through the front door of the house. Laptop in one hand, keys and a thirty-two ounce soft drink in the other, I tried to do the multi-layered juggling act we all do while trying to not miss a call. Of course, this never works and the voicemail kicks in just as we (and by “we” I mean all of mankind) slide the little icon over to “answer”.

What I Did Before My Summer Vacation
It was all my fault. I saw her arm rise, bent and coming up fast, with the fingers tight in what looked like a claw more than a fist and her face was beyond tense. Like she knew what she had to do. I was happy about that because I thought that I deserved what ever she had to dish out, since I had been a dumbass for most of the year. She was only responding with anger to my mistakes, doing what I may have done (shoe and the other foot). At least we dated.

The Samhain Chronicles: Ch. 17
Penelope grumbled to herself as she scratched out a few more notes. She was still fuming at Daniel, not believing he could do something so heinous. On top of that, he completely shut down when she confronted him about it, which was nothing like the man she knew. Granted, he was known to be shy and awkward at times, and she had been quite forceful in her scolding. Penelope paused a moment, wondering if he behaved that way because she had been too hard on him. Try as she might, her temper often did have a way of getting the better of her at the worst of times. She thought back to the look on his face: he seemed embarrassed when she confronted him, remorseful even, and like he wished to say something but couldn't. "Perhaps it had just been a misunderstanding," she mused, feeling a pang of regret at remembering how shocked and miserable he looked when she'd slapped him.
