Keep Off the Grass
The sign was clear enough, even in the moonlit dark. "Keep Off the Grass" it read. But who really cared about all of that? It was just a lawn. Grass was grass and Kurt had been walking for quite some time. His car had broken down some 12 miles back up the road and this was the closest to civilization he'd been since trekking his way in.

Ash Lake
Ashes fell like rain. The black flakes stuck to the window in globs, mixing with the dew to form globs of black goo. Marcus released a heavy sigh. He tried to see the conditions outside, hoping that his route would be open, but to no avail. All he saw was grey. He turned away from the window and looked joyfully at the photo sitting on the shelf next to the window. There sat Sawyer, his beloved, with her long brown hair and beautiful green eyes. Next to her was the daughter Marguex, always smiling and always happy. Marcus sighed again. Only twelve more hours and he would be out of this rotting cabin. That is if this ash storm holds off long enough for the chopper to get through. He slowly closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths.

Mortal Lake
I was staying at a cabin down in Allegany for some time to unwind and just clear my mind. It was beautiful and serene especially at the lake which was just steps from the cabin. One night I couldn’t sleep as if something was calling me. I stepped outside to go for a stroll to catch some fresh air. It was a night unlike any other, a night when everything about my life changed and I was highly enlightened.

Standing Still
Edward saw the ship approaching the lighthouse in the fog. He stood in the lantern room, the light of the beacon rotating, spreading its beam across the horizon. The Fresnel lens that encased and transmitted the light looked as if a large bird had laid an elaborate glass egg. Edward loved watching the light move, refracted through the rotating glass oval. Many ships owed a debt of gratitude to this marvelous invention. It was one of the latest in design.
