Tale of Two Dark Towers
Looking back at the time frame, I can't honestly say I remember the exact day I saw the commercial for The Dark Tower. It was a trailer of the film being released on the 4th of August 2017, and it starred all the right faces. Handsome and talented Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black and the dreamy British Idris Elba as the Gunslinger. But it wasn't the heavy-hitter actors that caught my eye. Instead, the blurb towards the end of the trailer that said it was based on a Stephen King book.

Marvels of Temerant
Of all the fantasy worlds I’ve loved before, did I ever fall the way I fell for the world of Temerant? The Name of the Wind unfurled a narrative tapestry so rich and delightful that I read it, and The Wise Man’s Fear, each seven times the year I discovered them. Seven times, of course, for all the sevens that appear in these enchanted pages. What makes this world stand apart from the rest? There are many things. But perhaps the key to its singularity is that it begins in defeat –the hero in hiding– bitter and burdened by remorse and regret.

The Adventures of Golinda and Gallopatrot
Once upon a time, many years ago in a land far away, a child lay in bed, listening to the adventures of Enkidu and Gilgamesh. Mother read, “ They cut a tunnel through the sacred cedar woods that span 10, 000 leagues. They crossed the Waters of Death and climbed between the two peaks of Mount Mashu. Water from a storm drained down the mountains onto the banks of the Euphrates and uprooted a single Hullupu tree. A ghost maiden picked up the tree and brought it to Unag, where Gilgamesh was king. She planted it and it grew. The Huluppu was protected by a dragon. said to be immune to the incantations of the maiden who laughed with a joyful heart. Lilith built her home in the roots of the Tree of Knowledge. An Anzu bird settled in the branches. Some say it was an indefinite article of a disaster. It resembled both the goddess ghost maiden and the dragon. Gilgamesh killed the serpent and destroyed the tree to make a throne for Inanna, the ghost maiden. The Anzu flew to make new homes throughout the world. Golinda was one of the fledglings. She held the essence of the sacred feminine and the dragon that resides within all males and females. They were raised to serve and be served by the other. As it happens, they are considered insignificant stories of imagination, but this tale suggests otherwise.

Journal Entry
Dear Diary, I sit here once again in the shade of the ancient willows- on my favorite moss covered stone near the river. Naked except for the violets and morning glories in my hair. Home once again in the depths of these ancient woods. I am relieved to be back... although I must admit I am lamenting. I am writing this to relieve my heart of this sorrow.

Representation Matters in the Crossroads Trilogy by Kate Elliott
What if 99% of Europe had been wiped out by the plague in the 14th century, and the remaining non-white peoples of the planet shaped almost all of human history? That was the premise of Kim Stanley Robinson’s alt-history novel, “The Years of Rice and Salt”. While this review isn’t about that book, it provides a way to shift your thinking to a world made up solely of people of color.

The Fantasy World of D&D
"Noooooo!" yelled the boy next to me and dramatically fell slumped in his chair. He wasn't much older than fifteen. He was dressed in a wizard hat, robes, and a long fake wizard beard that hung awkwardly from his ears, exposing his round baby face. He gestured wildly and knocked his wizard staff trying to push himself back into a sitting position, his bout of dramatics done and a grin back on his face. His staff slowly slid from the table and clattered on the floor adding to the ruckus of the room. I grinned and looked around me.

The Blue Queen (Part 5)
Ciara paced up and down waiting for her back up to arrive when she noticed the adze moving his fingers. She stormed up to him. “Don’t even think about it,” she spat. She place her foot on the handle of Hope’s Glory and heard him wince in pain. “Wait,” he announced, “please stop let me tell you what I know. Lean in for I am weak.” She removed her foot but held her position, refusing to lean in. “I’m not falling for that. Out with it,” Ciara spoke.
