Familiar Bonds
When I woke up at three in the morning the moon was still glowing through the curtains of my window casting eerie shadows against my walls, if wasn’t for my heightened vision I would have thought they were monsters coming to get me. To stop me from what I’m about to do, which is run away. I get up quietly from my bed and grab my already packed sack, then the $80,000 that was an unexpected gift left to me from my mother a few weeks after her murder. I also grab my bank card with what I managed to save over the years, then I tiptoe to my window tuning my ears to make sure no one else is around. Opening my window and steping my legs out I allow myself to hang there for a second thinking, whether or not I should do this and, if I can deal with the consequence it will cause from me leaving.

Witch Air
With a flick of his wrist, Kal sent a small sparkle of blue magic unlocking the door to the air traffic control tower. He quickly scaled the stairs going to the top of the tower, opening the door and stepping inside. He grinned at the two men that were sitting in the tower, both of which would be getting off their shift in a few minutes.

Halloween
The neighborhood is decorated in pumpkins and skeletons. Spiderwebs stretch across porches and over bushes. Everything is in orange, purple, green, and black. There’s a chill in the air, a light breeze tossing the fallen leaves about. The sun is setting, and children are walking down the sidewalk, dressed in a mix of homemade and store-bought costumes.

As brine flies picked blue-green algae from Jenna’s toes, she floated on the Great Salt Lake. She kicked away the algae and it slid from her toes. The movement propelled her backward into a flock of seagulls, who cawed and flew away, except one seagull still pecking for brine flies.

Purveyors
“I’m doing it this year! I’m egging that old house!” “Are you crazy?” The mansion was off limits. There was no reason to play tricks on a house you didn’t even ask for treats. “Come on, Parker. Let’s just go. Miz Harriet gives whole candy bars.” This was probably our last year on the Halloween streets. Our neighbors frowned upon 13-year-olds taking candy from babies.

Just a Man
Just a Man Markus spat out a mouthful of blood, and one of his teeth wanted to follow. Standing with a grunt, he checked himself. Limbs, check. Arteries, check. Bones? A few ribs were out, but nothing that wouldn’t heal on its own. All in all, he had survived.
