The Bright Road

The Red Shadow
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Even she knew that much. Eliza’s only view of the world was a small window looking out from the sub-basement of the fortress. All others looked inward at the lush gardens and overflowing fountains. No one who called it home wanted a reminder of the waste that the outside world had become.

Daggers and Dragons
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. Okay, well this time it was dragons, but it wasn’t always. Sometimes it was boggarts, or demons, or any other manner of creepy crawlies and unabashedly absurd monstrosities which were fit for the slaying, as Sir Reginald often said. Old man Kerna even swore that he saw a hairy beast with the face of a pig and the ass of a goddess somewhere up in the mountains, but Kerna was known to fancy a drink, so it was anybody’s guess as to what he really saw. No matter what manner of beast decided to stop over in the valleys however, all of the townsfolk rested assured that Sir Reginald and Sir Camdryn, the heroes of the land, would slay them. Excellent knights in their own right, together they were unstoppable. People across the land whispered stories of the Knights of Destiny, the two greatest men to ever live.

The Unknown Dark
"There weren't always dragons in the Valley. But they've always been in the mountains." The voice was quietly spoken but there was no doubting its authority, as a subdued hush descended on the Elders' meeting. How it had been heard over the hubbub of the dragon discussion was a mystery but heard by everyone it was. Bart, who was leading the meeting, was irritated that he had been interrupted, just as he was about to argue with Sampson about the ridiculous claim that he had seen a dragon.

The Dragon's Curse
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. The great mages drove them into the mountains centuries ago, giving the villages of Silla an everlasting peace free of destruction and fear of the skies. War bells gathered dust at the top of unmanned watch towers surrounding the outer city of Belvia. Soldiers were relaxed and lazy, barely needing their weapons or armor for anything but a show of status among the people. Many citizens didn't even know the meaning of danger. Everyday was the same utopia.

Desolation Valley
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Long before anyone can remember, this was a dead place. Rock so dry even the sand had vanished, no sign of grass or even desert plants, let alone beasts or birds. Any that passed through the valley would perish in short order, and so terrible was the place that any bones left from then became as ash. Even those who followed the gods decided this place was beyond their patrons powers. Then they came, from the deep stories of myth.

Kanner's Story
The star fall lit the sky with its stunning brilliance as the small group huddled together at the fire for warmth. Burning ash mingled with the sage they had used as kindling. The only noises that interrupted their quiet voices were the crackling of their fire and the soft hissing sounds coming from their steeds. These large reptilian beasts lie low against the ground to stay warm in the arctic-like terrain. The wind, laden with the chill of fresh snow, blew mercilessly against them and the lights from the falling stars sent their light dancing across the beast’s features menacingly.

Upon the Smoke and Ash
There weren't always Dragons in the valley. Indeed there was once a time where the valley was amongst the most fertile in the whole Kingdom of Yronvelt. That however all changed when the Mage arrived, the Mage who promised to bring the fine folk of the valley an even greater harvest season. You see, before the Mage arrived at the town of Ibith had experienced quite a few seasons of disappointment. Bitter and cold winters were followed by dry springs and brutal summers in the valley. The various Humans, and Elves that lived in town were getting desperate, the Mage himself had a plan.

The Freedom's Last Flight
Legend has it that two Divitian Captains engaged in a race to see which of them could sail to Castle Drandaar. While neither D'bari nor Serifina had ever seen a route through the great reef surrounding the island, they each believed they had solved it on their own.
